The main character in this show is 22. It's a show made for adults. This is what adults are now.

Harveyjames - 2014-12-06

I think I like this but I can't tell

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-12-06

Most of my 20's was spent being a waster . It was only when I was approaching 30 that I decided I had to sort out a proper career for myself. I've done that and now my next goal is to buy a house or apartment.

Anyway it seems quite common nowadays for the 20's to be an extended adolescence.
Not necessarily a bad thing. I spent a lot of my waster time reading lots of science + history, reportage books and I've felt I have attained a pretty good general understanding of what is going on.
Also I learned how to make music and started some bands, which is an awesome past-time to have.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-12-06

This is shit.

takewithfood - 2014-12-06

I liked the first two episodes but this one lost me somewhere. I think it was the crab.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-06

The crab felt unnecessary and forced.

Still, five stars because everyone loves Gravity Falls and Adventure Time, which are unabashadely kids' shows. We as a society have all been manchildren since at least Gen X, probably since the hippies, and there's no point in pretending otherwise.

Kid Fenris - 2014-12-06

I long for the days when you were an adult at 15 and likely to die in a war or childbirth or of the dropsy before you were 25.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-06

It's a mixed blessing, evolving into an Eloi. I don't know if I'd long for the days of human maturity, since on the balance we are clearly better off now (materially speaking, at least). However, I am willing to concede that if there were any cosmic justice in the universe, our medieval ancestors would be teleported to today, and we moderns would all be teleported back to the age of plagues and famine.

Xenocide - 2014-12-06

I think the entire joke of this show is, "This is what adults are now." The creator of this show is like 25 and this is basically her satirizing herself.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-12-06

I am seeing a lot of self-awareness in the way the show depicts Bee, even if it does lay it on pretty thick at times.

betamaxed - 2014-12-06

Heh, that kickstarter seems like it was the biggest bait and switch job. The new design and characterization of bee has turned her into a stubby mentally retarded adult child. So essentially this is a show for tumblr users.

Kid Fenris - 2014-12-06

Yeah, this got lame really quick.

Xenocide - 2014-12-06

Thanks, I was wondering what 4chan thought of this show.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-12-06

We won't know what 4chan thinks of this show until they start producing porn of it. I'd recommend pairing her with Frederica from Hitsugi no Chaika.

fluffy - 2014-12-06

Did anyone who complains about the "new" characterization actually watch the pilot? She was always like this.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-06

As of the time of this writing, there are 31 Bee and Puppycat pictures on paheal. Most of them are solo girl, but there is at least picture of Bee and some kind of gigantic space troll.

BHWW - 2014-12-06

If it were anymore stereotypically tumblr "cartoonist" every character's nose would be colored some shade of red and/or a misshapen blob

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-12-06

Ooh, is there any Cardamon hentai out there??

I'm asking because I'm not going to go looking and I expect someone here to go looking for me.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-06

Mon or Mom? I assume he's named after the spice, which is spelled with an "M", but I will check into both and get back to you.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-06

Nope, can't find anything. Looks like you may have to draw it yourself.

On the plus side, Pixiv seems to be receptive to this series. Here is my favorite piece so far:

ashtar. - 2014-12-06

Dragoon, cat, girl, or warrior Frederica?

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-12-07

Oh man, it's so hard to choose.

StanleyPain - 2014-12-06

lol random i like adventure time too lets play cards against humanity

Ugh - 2014-12-06

Ugh

Adham Nu'man - 2014-12-06

^ *****

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-12-06

I don't think I could handle being around someone like Bee for long periods of time. Cardamon seems like a good kid, though. They should just make the show about him.

3 stars for Cardamon, plus one star for Vocaloid-voiced Puppycat.

Maggot Brain - 2014-12-06

Huh, maybe it's a good thing that network shows have to answer to sponsors and programming directors...

Spaceman Africa - 2014-12-06

This just made me wish I was watching anime

BHWW - 2014-12-06

This show got very stereotypically "hack Tumblr cartoonist" very quick, that first installment at least had a little charm but apparently the creator ran out of her supply of charm real quick.

Not that there aren't good artists who happen to be posting their work to Tumblr, there are, but a lot of that noodle-limbed, scrawly garbage produced by people who obviously want to produce the next Adventure Time or Steven Universe or what have you so badly seems to have staked it's claim on that corner of the internet. And sometimes it actually makes it to print or production, unfortunately.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-06

I can see the Adventure Time comparisons, although Adventure Time was not the first thing to incorporate that noodley-armed/minimalistic look (it was pretty popular with hipster artists back in the early Noughties). However, I'm getting more of an oldschool Doraemon/ Ghibli/ chibi Go Nagai feeling from this, and there's at least as much Sailor Moon and stoner-MLP as there is AT.

fluffy - 2014-12-06

Natasha Allegri got her start as a character designer for Adventure Time. Of COURSE her character designs will therefore seem somewhat Adventure Timey.

BHWW - 2014-12-06

Oh, that's a fact I was aware of, even the mild controversy surrounding her fanart of the princess and the vampire girl from AT that got a lot of the crazy Adventure Time fans all het up one way or another - she's not a bad artist, but I'll just say again the first installment of this cartoon had some charm to it; this most recent one seems like something one the aforementioned Tumblr Brigade of Mediocre Overly Twee Cartoonists would come up with, all that's missing is a main character with a half-shaved Skrillex hairdo or a red bulb of a Tumblr nose

Gmork - 2014-12-06

Okay, dead horse beaten. One trick pony has finished the show.

Could have been something, wasn't.
