He couldnt even bother putting something there to help them get down? They were obviously struggling with the drop distance, seemed they perceived it as a a bit too far for them to comfortably fall.
Also he went to the trouble of video-taping them but did not bother counting as they emerged?
I bet they're just sleepy. I've had raccoons climb up to (and once right through the screen of) second and third story windows, they're pretty nimble at night.
