Oh Dr. Demento. I used to go see him every year with my dad over at Reed College in Portland. Some of his songs are pretty novelty but he did a lot for independent musicians with a station called KRRC (now KXRY) here during a time where anything that wasn't on the charts was virtually undiscoverable for the casual radio listener.

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-11 In 6th grade my best friend and I had Dr. Demento sleepovers and taped it every weekend we could. I've still got about 10 of the tapes in a box somewhere.

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-11 Pretty much laid the groundwork for a LOT of my future tastes.

infinite zest - 2014-12-11 There's a good chance I'll run into him at an alumni function in a couple of days (I didn't attend Reed but since we hosted foreign exchange students every year my family gets honorary alum status.) If I see him I'll say hi on behalf of POE.

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-12 I can't actually remember how I found out about him. It was around the same time that I got into Weird Al, but I feel like they were parallel discoveries.
