Fuck You Baltimore!

Ah, Baltimore police! Personal Story Time: Nearly 3 years ago I was living in Baltimore and was arrested for taking photos of the cops arresting my friends at a house party. Ended up handcuffed in a jail cell and headbutted in the face by an officer and then hog tied after I mentioned filming police isn't a crime.
They charged me with disorderly conduct claiming I charged violently at the arresting officer and said my black eye and facial bruising were from me smashing my own face against the jail cell in protest. My friends ended up bruised and bloody as well for what was really just a noise violation. They're currently pursuing legal action against the Baltimore City Police Department.
Long story short, fuck cops. fuck baltimore cops.

Wow. I was watching PBS Newshour last night and they were interviewing the chief of police in New Haven, and he talked about training cops to get to know their neighborhood and how they deploy their cops to those specific areas. And that's pretty fucking easy in New Haven. To be blunt, it's either Yale or Not Yale. They should've interviewed the chief of Baltimore, Milwaukee or Detroit's chief because that's where shit like this happens.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-13

Yeah, New Haven cops aren't all that bad, at least not compared to the cops of many other places. I think the fact that half our city is the playground of the world's future leaders helps somewhat; you don't want a despotic police state when there are no gated fences separating the philosopher-kings from the herd, and some billionaires' shaggy-bearded twenty year old son could get caught in the crossfire.

There are some shitty neighbourhoods in New Haven (*cough cough* Dixwell) and the city's got some serious crime in the non-gentrified parts of town, but A) it's generally a pretty clean, nice looking place, speaking relatively to other cities and B) as shitty as this is to say, white people have enough clout here that police misconduct generally gets handled in a timely, reasonable-by-1980s-standards manner. That said, the last police chief the city had was involved in some videotaping shenanigans:

... but the dude had a bicycle and for all the cops knew he could have been Latin Kings, or even Tea Party!

EvilHomer - 2014-12-13

Or the KKK, seeing as he's from Wallingford.

It was because of the VERTICAL VIDEO!

bopeton - 2014-12-12

Agreed. She deserved it for holding her camera the wrong way.

The Mothership - 2014-12-12

Fuckers.

gravelstudios - 2014-12-12

1. I used to live in Baltimore and can confirm that Baltimore Police are generally awful.
2. I feel guilty for this, but I kept imaging Jordan Peele in drag.

"Today, class, we'll finish our discussion on the ancient civilization of America. We will be covering the great fall which occurred sometime during the early twenty-first century. While many factors contributed to this downfall, archeologists have identified a single event which sparked the final collapse."

"Early in the first quarter of the century, when digital devices were still the only means of capturing and storing stimuli for future experience, civil law enforcement officers in a densely-populated urban area detained a citizen for a minor infraction. One of the officers, for reasons that remain the object of speculation to this day, began physically assaulting the unarmed and securely restrained civilian. A bystander, shocked at the brutality with which these authorities treated another citizen for such a minor violation of the law, began recording the incident so the general public could see and hear what had happened, devices of that time being only capable of recording visual and audio stimuli."

"Another law enforcement officer, noticing the incident was being recorded, demanded a cessation of recording and that the recording device be surrendered to them. When the bystander refused, arguing that the recording was not forbidden by any law, the officer began assaulting the bystander in an attempt to retrieve and/or destroy the device."

"Other bystanders, upon seeing this, began to record this incident and upload it to the primitive digital telecommunications network that existed at the time where it was viewed and heard by many others on their primitive home computer systems. When officers saw these bystanders recording the assault, they demanded the recording be stopped and the surrender of the recording devices. Some bystanders complied, others attempted to continue recording and were promptly assaulted by the officers. Other bystanders began recording these assaults and uploading them to the network. These bystanders were also assaulted by the officers."

"Many people viewing the multiple assaults against innocent civilians by law officers were outraged and hastily organized marches to protest the behavior and call for government authorities to intervene and reign in the law enforcement community. The protests were met with major shows of power by law enforcement officers who assaulted the protesters. These incidents were recorded and uploaded by other protesters and bystanders who were then assaulted by law enforcement officers. These assaults were recorded and uploaded. Those recording and uploading the assaults were assaulted by officers."

"Within a week, the entire nation was in a state of chaos. While many people were being actively assaulted by officers, many more people were recording the assaults and were almost immediately assaulted by officers. Criminals took advantage of the confusion to engage in massive widespread looting and vandalism. Vigilante groups organized to combat the looters but, being mistaken for looters, were assaulted by law enforcement officers. These assaults were recorded and those recording them were assaulted by officers."

"By the time officers were recording the assaults they were themselves committing and the resultant assaults on their own persons by their fellow officers, a state of emergency was finally declared. Many middle-class Americans attempted to flee to Mexico only to be turned away by Mexican authorities because the government felt the emigrants would be a burdensome drain on their resources."

"Many wealthy Americans, including popular celebrities, gathered what assets they could and were able to escape to other countries. Nearly all of them died in poverty because nobody outside America cared about them."

Then the Chinese teacher and class all laugh.

animegurl1000 - 2014-12-12

1. Tell driver to pull over.
2. Stand in front of driver's vehicle after it begins to move.
3. Arrest driver for attempting to run over police officer.

I guarantee that's what happened here. The girl saying "How can I pull over when the police are right there?" and then shouting "Why would you do that?!" suggests it.

takewithfood - 2014-12-13

At the end I half expected a cover of "Way Down in the Hole" to start playing.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2014-12-13

I always thought that the proliferation of cellphone cameras would curb this shit but it hasn't done a damn thing.
