those were some great CG tits

Cool. If you put it up to 720p it stays mostly at 60FPS (probably because my computer's a little slow.) I forgot YT was doing 60FPS now and this was the first one I've seen.

As for the chairs, I don't know. I am impressed that none of Briareos' popcorn spilled, but I could see a potential lawsuit waiting to happen if someone got jerked forward and spilled their hot beverage on the person in front of them. It's a movie theatre so it's not exactly like they're going to do away with the "let's all go to the lobby" mentality, bouncy jerky chairs or not.

The Mothership - 2014-12-16

How the hell do you keep from spilling your beer & popcorn all over your lap?

5 stars for something that sounds like a great idea in a meeting, but would probably make a movie absolutely unbearable because of the constant physical distraction.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-16

I vaguely remember reading about attempts to create "smell cinema" in the early 20th century; they were complete disasters and had a tendency to drive audiences away. Honestly, though, even if this *is* a bad idea, anything that might possibly entice people away from their homes and back into cinemas would be a godsend for the film industry.

SolRo - 2014-12-16

supposedly they're popular with audiences, the only one in the US does above average sales.

I went to a similar thing at six flags, I think, like 15 years ago. but it was synced to a first person IMAX Experience flight movie so the chair movement was really good.

this seems more like force-feedback for your ass.

I'd still try it, but I'm driving 3 hours to LA to do it.

*not driving

I could see it being kinda fun.. according to Wikipedia Scent of Mystery was the first movie to actually do it, but the perfumes all sort of mixed together and didn't reach the balcony in sync with the scene, and distracted viewers from whatever Scent of Mystery's story was. I dunno. I could actually see it working for some beautiful movie like Norwegian Wood or Wild (neither are very good compared to the books but I'd like that smell that I get when I read the books outside in the woods instead of the smell of popcorn in a theatre..) and what's Patlabor supposed to smell like anyway? And that's another thing. The smells, whatever they are would ostensibly just get mixed with the food items patrons brought in. I think it was some Czech movie from the 60s, but I can't remember the name, that took interactivity one step further and had the audience determine the outcome by shows of hands or something.

As far as the moving chairs go, yeah, although I'd rather get beer spilled on me than some hot beverage (getting beer spilled on me happens a lot more frequently than you'd think,) I'm thinking this is more of a soda and beer chugging Fast and Furious crowd than the cappuccino sipping Jim Jarmusch crowd.

From how fast the little puffs of smoke and mist travel, I imagine these rooms have specialized, oversized ventilation systems.

I went to a bootsy-ass cheap 4D theater at Dreamland in Bangkok (Thai knockoff Disneyland). I saw this terrible comedy thing about scientists making big bugs. It shook us around, blew air in our faces during a fart joke, and squirted water at us during a squirt gun scene. It was amusing for about 30 seconds. I would never watch an entire feature like this, it would be exhausting.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-16

Yeah, but... Appleseed! Surely you could make an exception for Appleseed!

Aelric - 2014-12-16

I love apples. But the seeds?

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-12-16

Hating seeds is like hating babies.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-17

Appleseed is easily one of the top five best Regular-Sized Robot mangas. It is also perhaps the best series which explores the emotional and sociological ramifications of romantic robot-on-human relationships.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-16

Deunan seems rather timid for an E-SWAT commando. I don't think that's really her!

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-12-16

Hey, she's off-duty and trying to relax! She doesn't have to be on 24-7!

EvilHomer - 2014-12-17

You are NEVER off-duty when your job is saving the human race!

EvilHomer - 2014-12-17

Also, Deunan is a caucasian American, not Japanese.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-12-16

Cop farts are the worst kind of farts.

ashtar. - 2014-12-16

How is he supposed to eat that popcorn?

oddeye - 2014-12-17

Michael Bay movies can now nauseate me with bullshit plotlines AND g-force!

Gmork - 2014-12-17

This angers me.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-17

You noticed the fake Deunan too, huh?

Binro the Heretic - 2014-12-17

That costume looks uncomfortable in normal situations, I can only imagine it being like a torture device when violent shaking is added.
