More or less it's an app you can install on your smartphone. It repeats everything you say on the mic back to you at a settable delay, typically half a second or so. The sound of your own voice talking over yourself triggers a reflex pause in your speech and more or less gives you verbal Parkinsons.

On the OTHER hand, the exact same technology has been used to correct a stutter in a kid who could barely get a sentence out. They strapped this thing on him and he did a speech in front of his whole school.

It just has the fun effects of fucking up those of us with normal speech patterns.

That kinda sounds like fun and now I want to try it. If you're already used to talking in crowded places (for example I worked in a call center years ago where we all said the exact same script at different times, usually a few seconds apart and only used the one-earphone headset, ostensibly so our bosses could shout at us and make sure they heard you) would you be better? I mean, it wasn't my voice but hearing what I was about to say or what I had just said from both sides never really got to me. But then again, why would I want to try something that brings back memories of the worst job I ever had?

He's wearing headphones that repeat what he said to him. The speech center of your brain does NOT like this.
