I didn't know anyone was hating on it in the first place. I've only caught it a couple times, and the older ones I've seen are a bit better than the newer ones IMO, but it's not like the decline of The Simpsons or anything..

also she's annoying.

Monkey Napoleon - 2014-12-31

One peek at her channel and you'll know,
This is Chris-chan 2.0

infinite zest - 2014-12-31

Monarch seems like a weird character to be into, kind of like Dr. Eggman. Oh well, to each their own.

The Mothership - 2014-12-31

So much heavy breathing. So much making your opinions public. Soon to be, so much regret.

Hooker - 2014-12-31

She looks mid-20s and acts mid-adolescence, so she's exactly the right age to watch the show in every way you could mean that.

kingarthur - 2014-12-31

But when they make a reference to The Jam or Bowie or Stiv Bators or Klaus Nomi or Lydia Lunch does she even get it?

infinite zest - 2015-01-01

Kingarthur are you serious? Any show that references Stiv in any way shape or form is a show that I will worship religiously.

Maggot Brain - 2015-01-01

Venture Bros is one of those things that was good at time but hasn't aged that well in retrospect.

Kid Fenris - 2015-01-01

That's a strange thing to say about a show that's been around only ten years or so. What do you think has changed in that time?

Maggot Brain - 2015-01-02

I think we were so impressed by the premise of the show we all failed to notice that the writing wasn't that sharp, especially in that first session. I do think the show did improve as it went on but conversely they keep on writing session finales as if they were series finales. If they had ended the show after the home school prom that would have been great.

Bort - 2015-01-02

The biggest problem with "Venture Bros" is that it eventually got sucked so far into backstory that the forward progress slowed to a halt. I don't mind backstory if there's something worth revealing, especially something that can be leveraged for more stories. But take the ORB: two episodes covering the ORB, and the reveal in the end is that the ORB is broken so it's not an actual threat ... that's a story arc that went nowhere and for no good reason.

About the time the Guild started blocking the Monarch from going after Dr. Venture, I was certain they were going to implement (what seemed to me) the obvious fix: since the GCI is making the show un-fun, the Monarch needs to take the GCI down, and unleash a Pandora's box full of unregulated villainy. Instead the GCI trundles on, arching disputes are settled through citing rules and precedents, and sometimes the Guild Inner Circle go driving together in a car from an old Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

Also, pedophilia is wacky fun.

Maggot Brain - 2015-01-02

I had forgotten the orb arch! Does any one know what going on with session 6? Looking forward that Vampire kidnapping sub plot going nowhere.

Dib - 2015-01-02

I still think they have some of the best writing around. I love their character templates (the one based from Henry Kissinger was fucking hilarious) and the direction they took by aging the characters and taking risks by changing the cast.

If it fell behind the times, it's because it takes them so long to produce something. It's already been 1.5 years since the last episode, and before that they always had these long periods of downtime where the rest of the world didn't sit in stasis.

EvilHomer - 2015-01-01

I don't want to shit on anyone's fun here, but this is clearly a parody of "Stop Hating on Sonic". She may be Chris-Chan 2.0, I don't know, but the material here is parodical in nature.

Hahaha that kid is great.

infinite zest - 2015-01-01

Esp. the "20 quick facts" video. I'll be dipped if that wasn't most of us when we were that age, but couldn't put it anywhere besides home movies. If this dude represents the future, then I'm glad it's a new year.
