I've thought about just dying it grey, even though I'm still a full head of uncombed brown hair (hair stylists I know want to know my secret; there is none) I've been noticing a few greys in my moustache, so maybe I'll just go grey. That way I'll get mistaken for older and more scholarly instead of half-a-decade younger than I am. Being 32 and being mistaken for 24 is a bit flattering, but it kinda sucks in the 30-something dating scene.

Doing a few image searches, I can tell with Martin, but not by a lot, and Wise has always kind of looked old.. what's weird is how much young Stewart with hair looks like Benedict Cumberbatch. Young Xavier looks nothing like what a young Patrick Stewart would've looked like.

I'm in the same boat looking younger! My greatest fear is that I'll end up pulling a Mark Hamill and hit a wall and immediately go from young face to badly aged face for voice work. Sort of like a male Slavic woman ;)

And I feel you on the dating scene. Dating is the absolute worst at that age. It's the awkward age range limbo between wanting the fast track to marriage, and being old enough to have a divorce under your belt so you can get back to not being in a hurry.

Or my view might be skewed from living in Boston and what feels like the worst city in the country for 20 something dating (and I've lived in New York). It feels like everyone in their mid to late 20s is a grad student which is the pits because grad students are only compatible with other grad students. Sure, I'd love to meet your friends! Oh, you're talking about...nothing...but...shop...zzzzzzz. Then you find out that thanks to the small knit social scene of grad school, half their friends are also their ex's.

Anyone in their 20s not in grad school? They're from Southie, and fuck Southie.

Yeah, Portland, Oregon's kinda the opposite (fun fact: due to the flip of a coin we were either going to be named Portland or Boston.) There's some great institutions like Reed and Portland State, but having gone to school in Madison, Wisconsin, I can attest to that feeling. Luckily my wife at the time was a history major, so at least I could relate with her grad student friends a little.. we'd usually just get drunk at the bar and talk about music. But Madison's a College Town; Boston's a College City.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and finally seriously look into moving. The rent is ridiculous (a 0 basement studio is considered a steal) and we've had horrendous winters the past 5 years in a row. It's either record snow falls (Boston streets are the worst in the country during GOOD weather. With 3+ feet of snow? Holy fuck...) or 9 month winters. The past 2 years in a row didn't even have a Spring! It went straight from freezing winter all the way up to June when it suddenly turned into Summer.

Nominal, I grew up in Portland and let me tell you it is a great place to live. Problem is, everybody else knows it and the secret is out, and now there is mad competition for jobs, housing, etc. Still, I done hung out in a lot of places around the world and in the US, and if you're sick of the place you in now then Portland, OR could be where you reinvent yourself. Make the move, yo.
