AN HOUR!

The original's only 14:30. Considering the show lasted 8 seasons and had 204 episodes, that's a surprisingly low number of grunts to me. I only caught the show a few times but it seemed like about 5 grunts per episode on average, not including the introduction.

It makes sense when you think about it, though. Those grunts were the lifeblood of the show and his career. If they devalued the grunts, what would be left?

so was tim allen on the comedy circuit with bob saget and gilbert gottfried and others? seems like tim allen sold out just as badly as bob saget had..

That's a good question, if you're referencing my comparison in the Jon Stewart Aristocrats video. I had sort of forgotten about the myriad films he was in and focusing specifically on the sitcom. He kept his "man-act" intact but just scaled it down whereas Saget dropped all of his persona for a strictly devoted father/brother/uncle whatever clusterfuck Full House was. I mean, who was fucking who? I think the only Allen movie I've seen was half of Toy Story and some of Galaxy Quest, so let's just say that's one whole film. Allen still seems like Allen, like the brawny know-it-all who's gonna fuck everything up sooner or later, which was always his act.

So I dunno. At this point, nobody really cares that Patton Oswalt was the voice of a cartoon rat or that David Cross was Alvin and the Chipmunks, but I think for a certain generation of comedians, especially before Youtube in the days where an entire network devoted to Comedy were unimaginable (unless you had HBO) selling out was kind of like seeing your friend whose band you used to be in selling out the Hollywood Bowl while you're stuck playing at The Smell, if that place exists anymore..

To me, selling out is actually completely in-line for a real comedian, because life sucks and money can let you be a much better alcoholic.

Five for all the Neanderthal mating.
