Better to be armed and dead than just dead I guess.

spikestoyiu - 2015-01-16

And then the dude who just shot you is like "Sweet, free gun!"

spikestoyiu - 2015-01-16

And then he posts here as Gmork

EvilHomer - 2015-01-16

I'm just glad that France had the foresight to ban automatic rifles, otherwise something like the Paris Massacre might have happened.

Nominal - 2015-01-16

Why shouldnt rocket launchers be legal?

ashtar. - 2015-01-16

The only way to stop a bad guy with a rocket launcher is a good guy with anti-personnel mines and light anti-tank weapons.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2015-01-16

Obviously the attack on Charlie Hebdo was a false-flag operation designed to make gun owners look like Islamic terrorists. Even worse, it implied they're French, too.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-01-16

Next up: How Anne Frank and all the other Jews in that attic would be alive today if they'd had guns.

Bort - 2015-01-16

I'm not sure you watched the video; in every single simulation they ran, the armed intruders killed the hell out of the office workers.

Just as Anne Frank did, the "Charlie Hebdo" staff needed Goku.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-01-16

I did not watch it. I just did, though. I am both shocked and pleasantly surprised.

My bad. Sorry about that.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-01-16

I'm flabbergasted. The gun lobby organised this 'experiment' and they didnt just have it return the result they wanted!?
Are they showing some kind of integrity? Also the negative result was aired on US tv!? Whats going on??
I actually think this is a plot by those damn liberals.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-01-16

I know, right? It was the last thing I would have expected.

infinite zest - 2015-01-16

And in Dallas Texas! I'm sure they'll spin this into some sort of "John McClane is an unrealistic example.. in real life Nakatomi Plaza would be toast" sort of thing, so really, if EVERYBODY at Charlie Hebdo had a gun.. etc. etc. The pen may be mightier than the sword, but a bullet's a lot faster.. :(

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2015-01-16

It's amazing that having a gun AND knowing an attack is coming (which is how all NRA fantasies work anyway) didn't result in a flawless victory for the armed citizens.

infinite zest - 2015-01-16

Refreshing use of non-sarcasm in the description.

That guy - 2015-01-16

The solution is not to try.

Gmork - 2015-01-16

And the other day, someone shot and killed an armed robber with women and children as hostages. Don't hear much about that.

Not that I support rampant conceal-and-carry, but it's funny to see how unobjective you guys always are about any issue involving guns.

Gmork - 2015-01-16

A FAKE renactment (and we know how reliable trying to re-enact something is) ended badly. A real life situation ended with the criminal being the only one to be shot.

All this proves is that variables exist.

SolRo - 2015-01-16

"FAKE renactment"

...you...do you know what a re-enactment is?

And your little gunwank fantasy doesn't tell us anything, as robbers typically aren't trying to kill people...that's why they're called robbers, and not murderers or killers.

Shoebox Joe - 2015-01-16

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/?s=Paris+simulation

I haven't watched the video, but the threads with Gmork and guns are always a fun watch.

SolRo - 2015-01-16

"In every situation we modeled the defender had advanced warning that attackers were coming"

"People who were hit multiple times continued shooting, despite being instructed to simply stop shooting and get down once hit."

"Another problem was the use of a flashlight by one of the attackers. A flashlight was not included in the testing protocol, but according to reports from the volunteers one of the attackers used a flashlight to blind the defender in one or two scenarios. These tests deviated from the methodology and will be excluded from the final results."

they're trying so hard to get the results their fantasy tells them they should.

simon666 - 2015-01-16

I think until you live in an average neighborhood where there have been multiple home invasions in the past year and where your neighbors have confronted people scoping out your house, that you have a real sense of why people might want guns for protection. It's shitty when you live in an average neighborhood that's targeted by criminals regularly to the point it actually makes sense to start sleeping with your bedroom door locked to give yourself a little more time should your house be the one broken into.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2015-01-16

A REAL re-enactment would require to basically set up the same situation. Given that they're arming people on-site who KNOW they're about to be attacked by other armed people, you can't possibly get anything resembling a realistic result.

If you want to claim that the mere presence of armed people = freedom and dead bad guys (pause for laughter), you have to be making the claim that just having a gun grants you Peter Parker's Spider-Sense of impending danger.

Shoebox Joe - 2015-01-16

SteamPoweredKleenex: The about tense is something that I feel that has legitimacy to it. I've read articles of the KKK training members to stay calm in the midst of gunfire/high tension, although in a more literal sense than what's usually done in the army. What's to say the guerilla/extremists don't do the same?

Gmork - 2015-01-16

Gunwank fantasy?

You morons really wish it was true, every inaccurate assumption you make about me.

The way you blatantly assume my motivations, despite consistently telling you in a matter-of-fact way what I believe and why, makes you about as intelligent as climate deniers and creationists in the context of our discussions.

Gmork - 2015-01-16

Shoebox - why are they fun to watch?

All I ever do is calmly state my non-violence advocating position, and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU who otherwise demonstrates intelligence on other video threads seem to turn off their ability to critically think completely in favor of (continually incorrect) assumptions about what I believe.

For a while it was kind of funny in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way, because I assumed you were all smart enough to know I'm not actually a racist or a gun nut, but now I'm starting to have serious doubts.

I think you've started to believe your own lies, after having repeated them often enough and loudly enough.

Are you so desperate to have someone here to blame that you'll manufacture one out of someone who doesn't even hold the beliefs you're attempting to attack?

Because that is exactly what you're doing with me, in every single thread that's involved guns.

I'm waiting for even ONE of you to acknowledge the obvious disconnect between what I say and the positions you assume I take on subjects.

It doesn't anger me, it makes me feel sorry for you. You're otherwise intelligent people, but it seems like even you guys have a knee-jerk button that sometimes gets pressed that causes you to throw out all logic and argument for ignorant rhetoric.

ashtar. - 2015-01-16

It's funny how we say the words and you get mad.

Old_Zircon - 2015-01-16

I'm pretty close to being a pacifist and have serious ethical objections to sport hunting, but if I lived out in the country someplace I'd probably own a shotgun or two because fuck are those things fun.

Shoebox Joe - 2015-01-16

*cough cough cough travinmartin cough cough*

Shoebox Joe - 2015-01-17

Alright, I guess I shouldn't follow on what Gmork is expecting, but they're so full of their self and postures so much that it feels like there's no point but to poke it with a stick. Please, elaborate your views on guns and Trayvon Martin again. No one is dumb enough to think that Eric Garner was taken down for a justifiable cause, but with all of your kowtowing to the manic right-wing blogs I don't think gunwank fantasy and racism are beneath you. I think you've just never considered them a plausible thing to you.

ashtar. - 2015-01-17

Don't forget his opinions on trans folks.

Shoebox Joe - 2015-01-17

Too much ashtar.

Gmork needs to open up and admit he has a horrible double standard and I don't think he'd be aware of it easily.

Shoebox Joe - 2015-01-19

Well unfortunately Gmork doesn't want to respond, so I can safely assume any response would be self-incriminating.

You want to know why I think you're a fucking racist? That fact that you're willing to judge a kid by his consumption of entertainment when your own is just as alarming and fucking gross.

SolRo - 2015-01-16

I want to know how the "I did better than I thought I would, still died" guy thought he would do, because everyone getting killed isn't a good outcome you can take a positive from...like, was he afraid he'd piss his pants and offer the attackers a sloppy blowjob to save his life?

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-01-16

The WORST part of this simulation is that the whole thing was designed to insult the victims of the attack by implying, "If only you had guns, you wouldn't be so dead, Frenchy assholes!" Just shameful.
