And I agree. As amusing as this can be, it's unquestionably terrible and you're a terrible piece of shit for doing it. You can get someone killed quite easily this way (it's a matter of time before it happens, mark my words), and while I don't know what the charge is, I do think you should go to prison for it, because your shenanigans killed an innocent person.

I also think you should be liable for all the shit the SWAT team breaks on their way in. Because lord knows SWAT teams don't give two fucks about your property. Not that I'm faulting them for that. If your a SWAT team entering a house/building under the impression that it's a situation you were trained for, you don't have time to give a shit about the property in your way.

Now those SWAT teams that burst into a house to serve a fucking warrant and shoot the dog, punch the baby, and destroy everything they come in contact with? Yeah, fuck those guys.

There's a video about that in the Youtube related videos. Apparently a 15 year old kid SWATed someone not long ago and the SWAT team (nonfatally I think) shot the victim's father during the raid. The 15 year old was identified because he called the police from his cell phone, was convicted of domestic terrorism and has been sentenced to 25 to life.

Snopes says the 15 year old kid thing is a hoax. I don't think anybody has gotten prosecuted for swatting.

It's absolutely horrible, dangerous, and a huge waste of a lot of people's time and money, but I just can't bring myself to feel bad for the "This is my job! It's my job to play video games!" guy.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they don't make it really common knowledge because if an operator receives a call from an untraceable number, they could assume it was fake, and if it WAS real, time would be lost and lives would be at stake. Kinda like if you're a pizza guy: almost ever pizza delivery guy's been given a prank order to someone else's house, or so the movies would have me believe, but you still go through with procedure and make the pizza. It's not the best analogy, but I doubt in the training manual it goes over A.) what to do when the order's a hoax, and B.) what to do if you think the order's a hoax. Plus, that'd just be a strange briefing: "guys, if you get to the house and the lights are on and cars are in the garage and people are walking by with their dogs, etc. then be really careful because it could be Swatting. Politely knock on the door and if no one comes, just assume everything's fine and go back." Something like that.

But yeah. If this was just something in the gaming world it'd be one thing, but celebrities like Kim Kardashian and such get Swatted too, and it's made the national news several times.

It's an odd world you live in, Gmork, when a white dude can shoot up a theater and manage to be arrested, still breathing, yet a black guy dressed as an anime character with a fake sword gets shot dead, and you're okay with that.

Gmork, I would love it if the world could work where the moment we all stopped talking about racism that the very concept itself would go away. I would love it that some how the very thought was an ill advised thought that could have been rebuked the moment it came up. But we are so naturally hung up on differences that we have no choice but to remind ourselves and keep the concept in the back of our minds. I have no doubt there were whites who said to themselves that the civil right laws would make everything okay. I have no doubt they would think "maybe they did something or were in a position to deserve it" when blacks were laid off with out compensation when Motor City began shutting down. You can't ignore the problem or rally against it thinking that the very concept itself is inflammatory. I would love it if were that easy, but we all play the devil's advocate from time to time whether we realize it or not and whether it is or isn't a devil's advocate at the time. Stating that cops do kill whites needlessly and unnecessarily is a justifiable statement, but racism is a bigger problem than we wish it was and we can't ignore those thoughts just to try to find some moment of zen.

Jeez. Not to mention the light guns. My neighbor and I used to like to drink beer and play some CoD game for the Wii where you use the gun.. we did have it on a little loud but when we'd go outside to smoke we'd leave the door open. Someone called in a noise complaint and the cops just told us to turn it down, but we were standing there with what looked like, and literally was, a gun of sorts when they arrived.

The "gun" for the wii doesn't look anything like a gun. It's a big white plastic hunk that doesn't resemble anything dangerous.

Yeah.. that was the one, in that color. True, it doesn't look like a gun like the Nintendo Zapper did, but a black object in someone's hand being held like a gun, in a split second, might as well be the same thing in someone else's eyes.

Not to mention what lighting there is. If you're looking inside a house in broad daylight, you're not going to see shit unless it has some really well placed windows or some really powerful lighting.

I think the whole seeing thing is a moot point. Plenty of unarmed guys are shot in broad daylight by the police because of sudden nervous movements. The real point is that this is a dangerous and expensive prank.
