oh yeah and one time i shot up a factory when i was 14 because we had access to literally 15 guns. no joke. in an empty house in CT on a blanket. Anyone could have walked in there cause the house was unlocked.... we shot up a factory. I didn't fire one bullet, but i witnessed it.

my step father is a gun nut republican/veteran Vietnam sniper.

he likes to keep a loaded handgun hidden randomly around the house to protect himself from marauding Mexicans. (drawers, in the closet under a folded jacket, etc)

I'm not sure you watched the clip or took in everything said. The comparison's salient points were:

1. There was a massacre in Australia, and guns were banned. There hasn't been a gun-based massacre since.
2. Among the many massacres in America was one at Sandy Hook where small children died. The suggestion that maybe we should ban "the big guns," which are only a portion of existing guns, was met with zealous bile by half of the U.S.

Y'see, the joke is that even when we have several successive incidents where firearms kill multiple innocents, we won't even consider banning SOME of the guns, not even the ones closest to the firearms used by the military. That's called "irony."

Can you name a shooting massacre where the shooter DIDN'T obtain the weapons through easy, legal means?

Maybe this is just me, but I think the parallels between the 2nd amendment and the 13th as presented here were:

- that the Constitution can be changed, and
- that the outlawing of owning something (slaves) has been done before, and that (like guns) a portion of the population objected, but it happened anyway.

I can't actually speak for all Canadians, but I'd say that if America actually did ban virtually all guns, Canada would probably not be that far behind. The vast majority of ours are hunting rifles and shotguns owned by rural folks, we already have strict laws when it comes to handguns and anything semi-automatic or faster in general.

The whole 'Canada has as many guns per capita as America!' talking point is highly disengenuous. It's virtually all hunting rifles or shotguns owned in the singular by rural households for pest control or megafauna defense, and a few gun nut collectors that have massive collections because that's their Thing.

If you want to get rid of the second amendment, the fastest way to do it is to to have a scarey looking muslim man/group of men sue the government for the right that he should be able to own military grade weaponry (tanks, missiles, jets, etc) for militia purposes.
