Depressingly relevant, indeed.

Now if they didn't dump their libertarian BS over things like recycling, the series might be more worthwhile.

It's weird. I just started binging on Bullshit because of the PETA dognapping thing, and I think they're all on YT now. Last couple of days I've been putting it on when I go to sleep, and wake up and the playlist is still going. The earlier ones like the recycling episode were definitely that way, but I think it was to draw viewers to the show: "what? People who say that recycling ISN'T that great? Global Waming ISN'T a problem? I should listen to these Las Vegas magicians." The later ones are a lot more objective and most of the time I agree; they seem to have learned when to disagree with themselves in certain cases.

I have never seen anything on this show that is relevant, or that couldn't be done better by a film school student documentary. Five stars for how much I hate this show.

Frankly, even when they were dead wrong (or when I simply disagreed with them) Bullshit has always been an entertaining show. Which is all that I require from entertainers. Sure, it makes me happier when they're entertaining *and* correct, but if your primary source of information is two magicians doing a program on Showtime, you're already lost.

Interesting.. turns out this was the final episode of the whole series. I think I've mostly been watching season 10, but they're unlabeled and they somehow don't age so I can't really tell. The one on whether cheerleading should be considered a sport is brilliant and something I had never thought about before, the circumcision one is good too.. they're smart guys but really people should take this with the same grain of salt as a current episode of South Park.

Last time I heard, Penn said they want to do a new episode that points out the bullshit of Bullshit. And that they had got the rights to use the show's name, back from the network, or whoever owned it.

Also: they pitched the show right after 9/11 happened, and he was feeling cynical, and told the network that Christians would probably watch the show just to hate it. But when the hate mail came in, it was actually respectful and nice. So he felt like a jerk.

Anyway that's what I remember from attending a lecture (sponsored by a local skeptics group) where he talked for an hour and a half.

For better or worse, it's like talking to my dad, especially after we share a couple of beers. He's a staunch democrat but disagrees with Obama all the time, and for all the right reasons, but sometimes he gets nitpicky.

Re-watch the recycling episode. They weren't trying to lure people to the show, not when they trot out the "taxes are taken by force" line from the libertarian bible.

There's also a list on the 'net somewhere of their "experts" they call in, and nearly all of them are from Kato Institute thinktanks or have other credentials that include a love for Atlas Shrugged.

It's their show, but it's dishonest to a lot of viewers. Their best episodes concern religion and psychics, which they don't have too much of a vested political interest in; they just wanted to point and laugh.

Back in December I met the owner of one of the 5 largest recycling companies in the US. He's pretty Libertarian and clearly only in recycling for the money.

When they are right, they are right. When they are wrong, they are more misleading and obtuse than the worst of the worst fox news bottom feeders.

The main people fueling the anti-vaccination paranoia don't believe vaccinations are bad.

They're mostly the same people who try to convince people government regulations and taxing the rich are bad. Also, the environment is fine and social programs are evil.

They're not really trying to convince everyone. They're just trying to identify the people who will swallow their bullshit, no questions asked.
