Babes in toyland are great!

Yeah they were. I was like ten years old but Courtney Love lived pretty much behind my house. So I heard a lot of that stuff before I knew about riot grrl. The Gits will always be my favorite band out of that era, but for lack of a better analogy Babes in Toyland and Hole were more the New York Dolls of that scene.

Great band.

It's one of the few shows that has gotten much funnier for me as I get older: I was more-or-less Beavis and Butthead's age when the show was on, and liked Cornholio & such, but now that I'm of the age where I could have kids (or at least nephews, or be responsible around kids etc.) the show's taken on a much different meaning and I wonder why parents were so offended by it. If I had a kid this would be required pedagogical viewing material, like Goofus and Gallant.

For the same reason everything else was offensive the first time it happened. I remember my mom initially refused to let me watch The Simpsons (way back in the first season) because all she knew of it was from the news and their overreaction when Bart said "damn" and "hell" at some point.

Now I look at the intellectually stunted sitcoms they're watching today on standard cable, and every one is a half hour of softcore sex jokes and they're totally socially acceptable. It's like that Simpsons prediction "they turned Fox into a soft core porn channel so gradually I hardly even noticed."

Future youth will not realize how little of an exaggeration Beavis & Butthead are. Some of us were exactly like this.
