When I was in college one of the humanities buildings was named after Rachel Carson. One day one of my female professors, who actually had met Rachel on several occasions and had always been a supporter of hers, caught the gardeners spritzing pesticides around the area of the building. She screamed at them for this and they told her to basically shut up and they kept going about their business spraying the whole vicinity with poison.

She went to the administration and they didn't care either. I mean it's only the Rachel Carson building, why not spray poison everywhere around it. What's wrong with YOU, honey? was the basic response.

But...but Michael Crichton said DDT was good! GOOD!
