I fucking hate KISS

Void 71 - 2015-03-13 Kiss is unquestionably the grossest band of all time. If American capitalism took human form and started a band, it would be Kiss.

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-03-14 A fact Chaim Witz is quite proud of. In his now famous interview with Terry Gross, he opines "...And instead of being in a rock and roll band -- who the hell wants to do that? I don't -- I want to be in a rock and roll brand."

And people wonder why they've dragged the reunion on for 15 years.

Kiss has always been a mixed bag. I saw Kiss in 1975 right about the time the first "Alive" album was coming out. They they didn't have hydraulic platforms to move them around; they did it themselves They were hungry, and, I promise you, they were very good. I'd compare it to seeing the Who in the late sixties, without that level of songwriting, but with the big crashing chords and the energy. It turned out to be absurdly commercial, of course, but at least they gave they gave good value for the dollar. It was a very professional show, and they had a strong live sound.
Nowadays I think of Kiss as maybe an above-average Kiss tribute band, less of an act that a reenactment. (Since I haven't seen them since the eighties, that may not be fair.) The farther I get from 17 years old, the harder it is to ignore the relentless focus on fucking and the dum-dum sexism of the lyrics.
But, on those rare occasions when I still love it loud, "Kiss Alive" can bring it all back.

Maggot Brain - 2015-03-14 Preach. There is this running joke in my band; "Tonight the role of Ace Frehley will be performed by Meryl Streep"
