Unless you're developing stuff for these headsets, it's pretty boring, bit it has Chet, so why not.

SolRo - 2015-03-15

chet has abandoned us, why care?

Scrooge McDuck swimming in money.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-03-15

In high school, I started a Portal of Evil AOL Instant Messenger chat group and several old-school posters, like chet and Caminante, would show up.

How some of us have grown.

little kid me is in love with the idea, older me realizes that this stuff tends not to function without two working eyeballs and is perpetually disappointed by this trend.

fluffy - 2015-03-16

If you only have one working eyeball, then you can get just as good an effect with half the GPU power.

If you're blind, you don't need any GPU at all.

VR for non-sentient creatures is already here!

That guy - 2015-03-16

It has always been here.

G is Real 2401

Old_Zircon - 2015-03-16

A future where they actually get this stuff to work is going to be the fucking worst, though.

Rest in Piss, Shit

Needs the "Deke lord" tag.

I swear this whole VR thing everyone is pushing now is the motion control retardation of the mid-2000s all over again.

It'll be particularly interesting to see where it goes and how it affects the market though. See, all the big players are investing boatloads of money into these devices, but the thing is, none of them seem to know exactly what to do with it. Has there been a single game actually made for one of these things demo'd yet?

Oh well, Zuckerberg seems to think everyone will rush out to buy an OR so they can live on Facebook and Twitter 24/7. Because people apparently don't already do that on their smartphones.

Adham Nu'man - 2015-03-16

I'm obviously not going to sink money in this thing unless it turns out to be functional, but as an idea, it seems to me as the logical next step.

SolRo - 2015-03-16

Its only potential in any immediate future is games...I have no idea why facebook is interested, other than maybe thinking the masses will get hooked on 3D versions of their existing cash farming games...not many people will buy 0+ goggles to look at a floaty home page.

Otherwise, if the graphics card manufacturers and game companies get their shit together for once, in theory any game with a first person view is ready for 3D without needing massive reworking. (maybe tighten up the textures on any games that are 3rd person by default).

There's talk of trying 360 degree field of view movies (a la IMAX Experience)

SolRo - 2015-03-16

I'd like to try a 3D headset for Warthunder myself, looks fun.

And front page privileges have been revoked.

Guess I should not have mentioned the unspeakable name. Shame, I worked hard to submit rarely, and tried to only provide quality stuff. My average submit'l vote was 4.7.
