Scaffalling

I've lived in the midwest way too long. All I could think about watching this video is how there isn't a fat person in sight.

gravelstudios - 2015-03-16

I live in West Virginia, so I know what you mean. Although, it's not like there aren't skinny people around here, it's just that the fat people are so ridiculously fat that it skews the average way up.

Eh.. guess you'd need to live here, but go to 82nd St. and beyond and the ratio evens itself out.

Speaking of the midwest, I lived in Madison and Milwaukee Wisconsin for a total of 8 years, and the wind yesterday (though strong) was NOTHING compared to the wind out there, especially in the summertime. And there was always plenty of construction and scaffolding going on all year round. Worst I remember was a half of a tree falling down, restaurant umbrellas blowing away and one of those metal canopies getting uprooted and bouncing down the street, smashing into cars like a Katamari, but nothing like this..

Maggot Brain - 2015-03-16

even though this looks bad a metal canopy getting picked up by the wind sounds way worse.

It was pretty bad.. almost hit me too. Luckily it was a pretty low (and slow) traffic street. I'm thinking that if it had hit me, it might have knocked me over but wouldn't have killed me.. It banged into at least 3 cars but I don't think those things are much heavier than a bicycle (and of course it was outside of a bicycle shop). That was the same day a tree cracked in half just a few seconds after I walked by it. And that would've killed me. I felt like Mr. Magoo. Got home, made a vodka drink and rode the storm out watching dumb Tornado Watch, which made up 99% of the local news.

The worst I saw was actually in Madison, WI where the wind picked up and one of those umbrellas you see on the left got blown away going down a pedestrian street. It smashed right into a girl and she lost several teeth. :(

I love the collective "ohhhh shiiit!" at :15

You can smell the lawsuits from here.

Eh.. it's Portland. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to say that the car was illegally parked or something. Seriously, they gave out the key to the city or something to a meter maid who gave out the most parking tickets not too long ago.

Yesterday was pretty nuts. I was on the other side of the river so it was mostly just trash flying everywhere because people had already put out their garbage cans. An entire shopping mall lost power too. Interestingly, that bar to the left is a block away from one of my favorite places to play pinball when I have to be downtown. The building in question used to be a Greek restaurant with a very large purple octopus. The owner skipped town and put the octopus on CL for anyone who wanted a very large purple octopus. The building's been cursed ever since!

The Mothership - 2015-03-16

I remember that joint and I know exactly where that is, sort of on the border between Downtown and Old Town.

infinite zest - 2015-03-16

Yep! Last time I saw the octopus it was out by The Golden Touch and Humdinger on top of a barber shop or something.

infinite zest - 2015-03-17

Apparently the octopus isn't there anymore either.. it was back up on CL (for free) and a friend of mine's neighbors at the 24 hour coffee shop across from the Hotcake House on SE Powell were going to take it, but I guess they can't now either. The sea monster is indeed a curse.

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-03-17

Just move out of Portland. There are much better places to live.
