Got me in to Zappa and the Descendants.

I taped this off the air when it was first broadcast.

Oh yeah, Zappa and Beefheart and Devo too, to name a few. Don't think he ever played any Descendents but I was pretty young. I did sneak into a lecture of Milo's when he was teaching at UW Madison though, just to hear him talk. I'd like to think that I wasn't the only one, even though it was like listening to a foreign language.

I looked it up and he still comes around, and was just here in late January, for 5 dollars if you weren't a student. I guess it was about protest songs and the birth of hip hop. That would've been cool.

Hey played Descendants on a "short songs" episode, I remember that because a friend and I taped it. It was "I Like Food."

Yeah I would've guessed it was that song. What's interesting is that he was sort of the grandfather of "college rock" as far as I can tell when he was general manager of Reed's radio station (now 107.1FM or streaming at xray.fm; I'm not being paid to say this) most college radio stations in the early '60s were nothing more than announcements of goings-on about campus and what was for lunch, things like that. I'm sure there were others around the country doing the same thing but it's still pretty cool.

If you ever find them, figure out a way to get them to me and I'll make some good transfers, I've got a pretty solid, broadcast quality VHS transfer setup these days. Stuff that would have been in the mid 4 figures at the turn of the century costs absolutely nothing now that everyone's gone digital.
