I am still kicking myself for not dropping the for the feature length quicksand fetish Christmas movie I found during the early days of Poe Red.

quicksand hasn't been a major thing in movies for decades, VICE doing a pathetic job digging for a story.

I love how the reporter proceeds from the assumption that everybody understands that this is a big sexual fetish thing. If I hadn't seen quicksand fetish movies in here, I'd wonder if this was some kind of joke.

Quicksand was indeed a big thing in movies when I was a kid. I had nightmares about it. My favorite quicksand scene was at the end of of HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, when the Frankenstein monster, played by Glenn Strange, carries Boris Karloff as an evil scientist into a pit of quicksand, and the final shot is Karloff's terrified face in close-up, disappearing into the muck. There must have been times when Karloff thought of that scene as the perfect metaphor for his career.

I wonder if the moment when Quicksand became a joke was BLAZING SADDLES. It was about a decade before THE PRINCESS BRIDE.

So I guess we all hate Vice now? We sure are a fussy bunch, aren't we?

i really liked vice when it was just a magazine (i'd present my hipster card but you wouldn't understand it) and their reporting from war zones is actually some of the best i've seen (they were mentioning ISIS in 2012/2013 iirc) but 90% of their shit is just... shit
