That's what's so infuriating about the police. They'll shoot a man in the back for a busted tail light, but be sweet as cherry pie when some guy is tearing them a new asshole for no reason whatsoever. In practical terms, it makes it very difficult to have any functioning relationship with police officers. You try to help them, well you're likely to be arrested. Why? Because their behavior is entirely chaotic.

I found myself wishing that someone would say to him, "If you want to walk alongside the tracks that's your right, but if you want to ride the train, you voluntarily agree to the train-riding rules". That other passenger tried to make a similar point, but didn't quite hit the nail on the head. All of which is moot, anyway, since this guy was just trying to get out of paying (spoilers).
