I have an American one sheet movie poster of this, signed by Lindberg. It's among my most prized possessions.

This movie rules, although the slow-mo killing scenes are ridiculously drawn out and speeding them up would really help the film.

The slow motion itself really works for me. It evokes Frigga (or Madeline in the French) experiencing the killing from inside her stunted world of detachment and silence. If they could have choreographed the scenes a little better, that would have been nice. That one guy on the upper platform seems to throw down his gun and jump off the platform. It couldn't have looked more phony.

ATTENTION: The full length version of the film that I linked to in the description box, and also here:

https://youtu.be/YLH6hxbKkkU

Is the UNCUT VERSION, and it contains close-up scenes of hardcore sex. I can't believe that this has been on youtube for two years and viewed a million times. Maybe community standards are changing, but you may want to follow my example, and download a copy for safe keeping.

The close-up sex scenes were obviously added later. Probably someone calculated that, by 1974, there were more theaters showing porn than theaters showing exploitation films.

I don't know if I believe this, but the official story is that for the scene when the scapel penetrates Frigga's eye, the eye used was that of a real human cadaver.

From an interview with Christine Lindberg:

Well, he (Vibenius) knew some doctor, and he asked him to get ahold of a corpse to perform the poking on. So they’re really cutting (with a scalpel) through the eye of a corpse (of a girl about my age), on which he had painted the face (with rouge, mascara, and the like). You see, that’s the way he worked… I was told this story long afterwards I’m glad he didn’t do this to me.

I watched "High Spirits" the other night, and I have to give Darryl Hannah this: she is an incredibly, wondrously versatile actress.

Loved her in STEEL MAGNOLIAS!

How is anything ever too graphic for POETV?

Pillager - 2015-04-14

Breasts get you in trouble.

Gore & Death, eh...

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-14

Well, there are rules, and posting this directly would absolutely violate them. Now, the fact that this is on youtube might nullify a lot of the concerns. I believe Chet wanted to avoid being spammed by pornsites or something. So this would probably wouldn't be a problem, BUT

>>Breasts get you in trouble.

Gore & Death, eh...

Let me repeat, because I want to make sure everyone understands
THIS VERSION CONTAINS HARDCORE SEX. They've obviously been tacked on as an afterthought, but I'm talking extreme closeups of genitals, penetration, ejaculation, the whole magilla. In about ten years, I've never seen anything this explicit posted here, and I don't want to be the first. Of course, I've never seen anything this explicit posted on YouTube before, but that's on someone else, not me.

AND I wanted to make the trailer. The idea of posting the link came afterward. Spent the better part of the weekend on that, and I enjoyed it a lot.

It's also worth noting that they allegedly used a real medical cadaver for the closeups of the eye-gouging scene, so there's also that.

Old_Zircon - 2015-04-14

Already covered above.

My favorite alternate title for this is "The Killer Nun" but honestly I've never watched it all, I'm way more interested in psychsploitation stuff than gore, at least this sort of gore. Italian horror I can get in to but the brutal revenge stuff isn't really my thing.

Although Bloodsucking Freaks is pretty amazing.

I don't get it. What's more psychsploitation than brutal revenge? And I don't know how much you've seen, but except for the one shot of the blinding, there's not much gore. In the very end, there's a suggestion that the pimp character has its head ripped off by a horse, but you don't see it.

It disturbs me that they could allegedly find a female cadaver in her early 20s on such short notice. I've read from an unreliable source that the girl was a suicide. Okay, I'm having a hard time buying this. The "corpse" looks pretty pristine. The white of the eye is perfect. Wouldn't there be some clouding or discoloration or something? The thing is, if it's an effect, it looks convincing as the "blinding" of a corpse, but it's impossible to believe that this a living young woman struggling with her captor. Putting it out that a cadaver was used makes an unconvincing effect shocking and tragic. I wonder if a medical examiner has ever looked at that scene.

For me, Frigga's silence, combined with the eerie slow motion gun violence, implies a departure from the usual revenge story, from Titus Andronicus to I Spit on Your Grave. There's usually more drama and emotion from the wronged hero. Frigga seems detached, distant, as she carries out her terrible revenge. It's as if being denied her humanity for so long turned her into a monster, and that's even more tragic.

I may be reading too much into it. This was shot around the time when slow-motion violence was pretty trendy, between "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Electra Glide in Blue", and Christina Lindberg's gorgeous, iconic detachment may have come out of her limitations as an actor. Disarmingly, she says in an interview. " I was fascinated by the chance to really act in this film. And also, because the girl I was mute, I could avoid my big weakness: delivering lines."

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-15

Counterpoint: BLOODSUCKING FREAKS is a piece of shit.
