Is it really necessary for literally every instructional YT video to begin with some variation on "Hey You Guys!"? It's a convention I am beyond tired with. Seriously, fuck "You Guys".

Nominal - 2015-04-16

How to block videos.

Download the video blocker plug in.

I don't know who JHMF is kidding. Him and Sudan are way more addicted to Thunderf00t than the rest of poetv combined. Just like the only people who bother reading MRA pages are the people who can't stop talking about how much they can't stand MRAs.

Hooker - 2015-04-16

I've seen Thunderf00t mentioned like ten times, and every time it's been JHMF spitefully talking about how much he dislikes him.

Nominal - 2015-04-16

Reminds me of the Private Parts scene where Stern haters listen for five times longer than fans.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-16

>>I've seen Thunderf00t mentioned like ten times, and every time it's been JHMF spitefully talking about how much he dislikes him.

>>Kinda like the way you can't stop talking about me, Hooker!

>>I don't know who JHMF is kidding. Him and Sudan are way more addicted to Thunderf00t than the rest of poetv combined.

No shit, Brainiac, that's why I'm blocking him. What part of this do I have to explain?

Gmork - 2015-04-16

Yeah Nominal, because nobody is ever genuinely offended by something, they all secretly love it.

In every. Single. Scenario.

ashtar. - 2015-04-17

I seem to recall an internet community whose main function for existing was to look at things that they didn't actually like, actively hated, or considered "evil." What was the name of that site? IF ONLY I COULD REMEMBER

Xenocide - 2015-04-17

This video should have started with a trigger warning for Nominal.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

I neither deny, apologize or excuse my obsessive hatred of Thunderfoot. I can't think of anyone I'd rather hate, butit's not the best use of my time and energy. If his videos aren't showing up in my feed, it'll give me more time to think about the things that I don't hate. Also, it's editing. I believe in editing. Editing is a noble cause.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

>>I seem to recall an internet community whose main function for existing was to look at things that they didn't actually like, actively hated, or considered "evil." What was the name of that site? IF ONLY I COULD REMEMBER

http://www.4chan.org

I seem to remember that POE Red used to come with an introduction that explained that Evil wasn't POE's mission in particular.

Cena_mark - 2015-04-17

I really hate Thunderf00t too. I loved his videos and they were very helpful to me when I was struggling with losing my faith. In his videos he showed a delightful love for science and reason, but then of course he started revealing his MRA scumbag side. So yeah, fuck Thunderf00t and fuck the Gracy family.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-09

Thunderf00t is no longer showing up in my feed, and I am no longer obsessed with Thunderf00t.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-16

>>How to block videos.

You make it sound so obvious, but for a long time now, I've been looking for a way to block users through the youtube interface, not through the browser, which seems way more intuitive to me. The nice thing is that when you block these bozos in chrome (not just the clod of thunder, also the Amazing Atheist, and Sarasdfhy of Arsefghnjkuh, or whatever, they also seem to turn up less in Firefox, which I prefer.

Cena_mark - 2015-04-17

Don't let these guys give you shit for this. Youtube is always trying to push its favorite channels on you. Also being in POETV you might happen to view a Thunderf00t video and then be bombarded with his MRA rants on your front page. Either way fuck Thunderf00t. He used to be so cool.

EvilHomer - 2015-04-17

Cena, for shame. I would expect this sort of behavior from John, but not you.

Cena_mark - 2015-04-17

Its not censorship. Its about not having unwanted channels pushed on your youtube front page. Those unwanted channels are taking up space from things I might actually want to watch. Censorship is forcing Thunderf00t's videos to be taken down. JSOB is not doing that.

EvilHomer - 2015-04-17

It's not institutional censorship, no, of course not, nobody said it was. It's individual censorship - a conscious attempt to blot out the things you don't want to hear; to never deal with people whose views and opinions challenge your own. It's closed-minded, and just because you're not violating Thunderhoof's right to express himself, that doesn't let you off the hook, morally or intellectually speaking.

Besides, Google tends to offer recommendations based on *what you are interested in.* Not always, but that's the tendency. Now there is a big difference between things that are _irrelevant_ to your interests (such as a Geico ads, or all those Jimmy Kimmel clips Youtube wants me to watch, merely because Kimmel pays Google to promote his channel), and something that IS relevant to your interests, albeit in a negative fashion.

John loves Mr Thunderfoot. He spends a lot of time thinking about and talking about and even engaging with Mr Thunderfoot. THAT, I submit to you, is why Google gives John Thunderhoof reco's all the time - because Google has John's internet history laid out before its singel all-seeing eye, and Google knows John is very, very interested in what Thunderfoot has to say, and the topical debates in which Mr Thunderfoot is a major player. If you wish to be actively involved in whatever cultural war Mr Thunderfoot is currently engaged in (he's the guy who argues in favor of Global Warming, right? Or am I thinking of someone else?), then be involved!!! Don't be a bigot, and ***don't shrink your information bubble.***

Not clicking on a video you REALLY don't wish to watch is a reasonable answer. Completely locking channels that have absolutely no bearing on your interests (such as a basketball channel, a beauty vlog, or tips for single moms working at home), that sometimes makes sense too. But what John is doing - and you're enabling his behavior, by the way - is textbook closed-mindedness.

Cena_mark - 2015-04-17

I'm going to use this program to block Sailor Moon shit from my youtube channel.

EvilHomer - 2015-04-17

See, now, with you Cena, I suspect that your desire to block Sailor Moon is, in fact, simply an extension of your previous patterns of behavior re: My Little Pony. You want to block Sailor Moon, not because you hate Sailor Moon, but because you secretly love Sailor Moon, and you are ashamed of this love; every time you see her fashionable hair silhouetted against the moonlight, or her pretty dresses flapping soft in the spring breeze, it gnaws away at your own deep-seated feelings of guilt and remorse.

It's OK. It's not "gay" to like Sailor Moon. Plenty of macho dudes are into it.

EvilHomer - 2015-04-17

HOWEVER, I would like to point out that, in your case, I can see why you'd wish to block Sailor Moon videos. They are, in a real and quite literal sense, "triggering"; that is to say, they cause you a great deal of psychological stress and significantly impact your quality of life, in a real and measurable way.

Avoidance is not a good thing, but in the short-term, particularly when you don't have a support network in place that can help you process, it can sometimes be helpful.

Have you ever considered CBT or Exposure Therapy for Sailor Moon?

Cena_mark - 2015-04-17

Not everything people claim to hate is a secret love, and while you're right about my pony denial, I truly hate Sailor Moon. While MLP is backed by fantastic writing Sailor Moon just sloshes through the paces in every episode. One of the gang is having some sort of drama, monster is sent by bad guy, they beat the monster, and in some way that helps one of the sailors fix their drama. The size and longevity of its fandom boggles my mind.

Cena_mark - 2015-04-17

I don't fear anything girly here anymore. Thanks to you guys on POETV I watch MLP and listen to Vocaloids.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

POE TV is where I found Boxxy. Beware the "Random" button, it's powerful!

EvilHomer - 2015-04-17

I've noticed a disturbing tendency with you, Mr Holmes, to really crave censorship and self-imposed isolation. This is unfortunate, because I think that you're both smart and old enough to deal with people whose values and beliefs are different from your own.

Besides, I would assume - correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't know much Youtube, I am a casual user at best - I would assume that the easiest way to avoid Mr Thunderfoot's videos would be to, simply not click on them...? Does Youtube now force you to watch the videos it recommends, like Pandora does? Is Thunderfoot an intrusive preload advertiser? Help me out here, Mr Holmes; what is it about Mr Thunderfoot that is that is so intrusive, that you can't simply stop clicking on his videos, but instead need to actively purge all trace of them from your hugbox?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

>>I've noticed a disturbing tendency with you, Mr Holmes, to really crave censorship and self-imposed isolation

It's called EDITING, kid, and I crave the shit out of it. It's a perversion of the idea of freedom that we're not supposed to edit our sites and our youtube feeds, championed by obnoxious people who believe they have a constitutional right to troll. The analogy I like to use is this: Freedom of speech means you have the right to hold your klan rally. The right to edit, which is FUNDAMENTAL to freedom of the pressm means you can't hold your klan rally in my apartment.

>>This is unfortunate, because I think that you're both smart and old enough to deal with people whose values and beliefs are different from your own.

There are a couple of billion people on YouTubE who aren't fucking liars who are obsessed with Anita Sarkeesian. Extreme ideas are clickbait, and the google logarithm pushes clickbait

EvilHomer - 2015-04-17

You keep saying "editing" as if that word lets you off the hook. You can "edit" your entire online existence down to a single cat gif and your all-time favorite Boxxy video if that's really what you want; and then you'd be a closed-minded, hugboxing, ignorant old man, sitting alone in an echo chamber. It's your choice.

And I don't know why you even bother bringing this up (not everything needs to be a debate about "Constitutional law"; in fact, very few things do), but people do indeed have a constitutional right to troll. You don't have a constitutional *DUTY* to listen to arguments that you disagree with, no, but that is where your own personal integrity and intellectual fortitude come into play. Again, it's your choice - I'm merely suggesting that you should consider the alternative lifestyle proposed by Lindybeige in that video I linked above.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

>>You keep saying "editing" as if that word lets you off the hook.

What hook, Homer? There is no hook. The hook is in your mind. Your idea of integrity is a foolish taboo that doesn't scan against reality. You're wrong, Homer. You may not think that you're wrong, but I KNOW you're wrong.

>>How to bl... How about you don't click on them?

You want me to say that I sometimes click without thinking? Fine, sometimes I click without thinking. I'm sure I'm the only one.

Homer says that it's reasonable for me to allow Thunderf00t's videos into my feed and not click on them. But to block him means I'm restricting the free flow of ideas. I think that's a strange notion, since allowing Thunderf00t to take up a space in my feed without ever clicking on it essentially means that I'm blocking someone else out of the billion people on youtube.

The YouTube logarithm isn't to blame for this. It's just a logarithm. Ever try one of those engines that plays youtube videos completely at random? It looks like YouTube is really about 90 per cent gaming videos. There needs to be a default, but if you're trying to tell me that integrity demands that I let the logarithm make my choices for me, you can go sell that banana oil somewhere else.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

Don't be a bigot, and ***don't shrink your information bubble.***.

Seriously, Homer, these click-baiting hucksters are constricting the flow of information.

>>You can "edit" your entire online existence down to a single cat gif and your all-time favorite Boxxy video if that's really what you want;

It's not, and I really don't think I could block out every youtube user by these means, even if I lived to be 500.

This is the dumbest argument of all. You're saying that the choice to edit is bad because, like nearly everything in life, there are bad ways of using it.

Cube - 2015-04-17

How to bl... How about you don't click on them?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-04-17

How to live in a bubble and censor new and conflicting ideas from yourself.

Cena_mark - 2015-04-17

You're living in your own bubble, where you're so against blocking unwanted Youtube channels that you're too closed minded to use this program. Break out of your bubble.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

>>How to live in a bubble and censor new and conflicting ideas from yourself.

Don't you think that there's some stupid shit out there? And don't you think that some stupid shit rises to the top, often by making people angry.

This was never supposed to be about Thunderf00t, but he's the perfect example. Calling Thunderf00t "new and conflicting ideas" is giving him way too much credit. You want to know what I hate this piece of shit so much? I have one very specific reason.

Last fall, when Thunderf00t's Twitter Account was briefly suspended, and he released two videos claiming that Anita Sarkeesian was the one who flagged him personally toi get him banned.

https://youtu.be/XTSQbLt9DS8

His rationale for this wild accusation, at the height of Gamergate when the death threats were really flying, was in fact, easily disprovable. He's either, stupid, lying, or doesn't give a shit. It's incredibly irresponsible.

https://youtu.be/Ed__AIKtsHE

This isn't "censoring new and conflicting ideas" This guy is a piece of shit, and I am simply wiping my ass.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-04-17

Guys, your comments are triggering me. Now check your privilege and tell me how to block them from my view. The cishet patriarchy is forcing me to read them and forward them to other people. ;___;

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

Mockery is not an argument, DQ. Only an argument is an argument.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

We're up to our nipples in shit. Shit is driving the discussion. Gender politics in particular have become crazy, just psychotic, and the clickbait economy rewards people for adding to the insanity, and makes sure the most obnoxious voices are the loudest.

If we don't let the loudest, angriest, most exploitative voices take over the discussion everywhere, other voices will be heard that aren't being heard now, and different people will have different ideas, and different places on the web will have different characters.

There are good ways and bad ways to use our freedom to edit, just as there are good and bad ways to use our freedom of speech, but like our freedom of speech, CHOOSING NOT TO USE IT is a bad way to use it.

Cena_mark - 2015-04-17

I don't think there's a way to block comments. Its pretty hypocritical to ask for one.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

>>How to live in a bubble and censor new and conflicting ideas from yourself.

You're naive if you believe that the youtube logarithm isn't the most constrictive bubble of all, especially because it operates the same way for everyone. There are good and bad ways to edit, but everybody edits differently, and if everybody edited their youtube feeds and their blogs, internet would be much more diverse. Above all, people who are NOT angry clickbating attention whores could get a word in edgewise.

I used to go to a linux discussion site where the political flame wars were just terrible, and so, just before the Iraq War started, the administration changed the policy so that we could only discuss Linux. I went there for years. It was a great resource. People with all sorts of political views learned from each other and helped each other, and didn't climb up each other asses.

If i wanted to get into an argument about GW Bush, there were still about a million places I could go for that. But having a place where I COULDN'T get into an argument about the war was a very real kind of freedom. The unedited internet is very much the same everywhere.

StanleyPain - 2015-04-17

JHMF, thanks for this video. I have been looking for a plug-in for this for ages and despite everyone in the comments here being dicks, it turns out there hasn't been a plug in for this in Firefox until just recently, and even then, you have to use the specific name to find it..it doesn't come up in a search.

YAY NO MORE THUNDERFOOT OR AMAZING ATHEISTS OR GAME GRUMPS OR RAY WILLIAM SHITHEAD OR PEW DIE PIE OR ANY OF THAT SHIT IN MY FEED!!

Old_Zircon - 2015-04-17

You could cut the sexual tension in these comments with a knife.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-04-17

You feel it too? I'm flattered, but I'm afraid that I'm just a little too old for Hooker.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-09

Thunderf00t is no longer showing up in my feed, and I am no longer obsessed with Thunderf00t
