Actually Calamity Jane might be somewhere inbetween The Gits and BiT. They were awesome, but broke up when they toured with Nirvana and got rocks pelted at them at a festival in Buenos Aires. Pissed off, Kurt started "Smells Like Teen Spirit" before every song, then played pretty much everything off Incesticide and Bleach. Never played anything off Nevermind, which was the only thing the jerks wanted to hear. Calamity Jane played a little block party about 5 years ago, which was the first time they'd played since that incident, and it was awesome.

I'd heard the "starting every song with Teen Spirit" part of that story before but I thought it was just being fed up with pop stardom and wanting to fuck with the casual fans in the audience, I didn't know about the actual motivation.

Yeah.. I'm not sure if the pelting of Calamity Jane was the original catalyst, but it sure did help. Here's a band that was as influential as Bikini Kill, BiT, even Sleater Kinney all of a sudden playing in front of tens of thousands of people just getting shat upon because they weren't Nirvana. It's not really worth submitting but here's a link to that concert, which is the only time they played. Pity nobody recorded the whole thing.

You can see my house from there! Unsurprisingly, the band went on to grow up, just like Sleater Kinney did. On that street is lead singer Gilly's Salon.
