In different parts of the world there are different norms for expressiveness and so forth.
For example your average US is citizen is super bubbly and chatty compared to the world average, they also put a lot of effort into smiling all the time, smiling at strangers, saying "have a nice day y'all" etc. even though they are not constantly amused or particularly happy.
Russian society is an example of the polar opposite of this, Russians dont bother smiling and making nice unnecessarily. Apparently people from smiley countries who go there think everyone is depressed.
Personally I prefer the Russian way of doing things, its more genuine and efficient, also imo theres nothing more *truly* depressing than being in a bad mood and having to act all nice and friendly at work for example
Kind of reminds me that "how are you?" in English isn't really a question, just a blanket greeting statement. People tent to roll their eyes or think that you're depressed if you say anything other than "I'm good."
