Five hate-stars for Bob Kane. He's legally credited for the creation of Batman, but his idea was a guy in a red costume with bat glider wings and a domino mask. It was Bill Finger who came up with everything that made Batman an enduring character: the night motif, the cape, the cowl, the colors, his being a detective, the supporting cast, the major villains. All Bob Kane ultimately contributed was the name, and got all the formal credit.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2015-05-02

So is this basically the Steve Ditko/Stan Lee fiasco for DC?

Not really the same thing. Stan Lee unquestionably has a vast amount to do with Spider-Man, and does not mind saying that Ditko played a huge amount too. (What Marvel Comics Inc has to say is another matter.)

Bob Kane, on the other hand, actively worked to deny others credit, and even his gravestone lists only one co-creator behind Batman -- God. But if we stopped using the word "Batman" and referred to him only as, say, "Dark Knight", there would be nothing left of Bob Kane's contribution.

As far as Steve Ditko goes, he did design one of the all-time great costumes, there's no denying it. Some of his contribution didn't stand the test of time, for example his decision to depict Peter Parker as a spindly, awkward-looking guy (Ditko's successors have chosen to draw Peter like a fashion model, a bad call I think, but the point is that Ditko didn't stick). And God only knows what Ditko was thinking with the Osborne corduroy hair style, but it ought to be considered his intellectual property. All in all, I wouldn't mind if Ditko were more widely known than he is, and if it meant more money being sent his way. I just don't see that it's Stan Lee's fault or that Stan Lee should lose any credit for Spider-Man.
