That's a reasonable reaction to... what's going on now?

theSnake - 2015-04-28

A black criminal was murdered in the ghetto, but this time it may possibly have been one of the the 4% of times when it was not another black criminal that did it!!!!!!

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-04-28

TheSnake is on the case!

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-04-28

Police on bikes were cruising around the ghetto, saw guy who began to walk the other way when he saw them, police told him to stop, he didn't, so then they tackled him and found a switchblade in his pocket. Switchblades are illegal in Maryland I guess, so they arrested him and put him in their police car. For reasons unknown, that the police have yet to reveal/make up a story for, he was rushed to the hospital an hour later and died from injuries he sustained while in police custody. He had a severed spinal cord, a crushed larynx, and three broken vertebrae.

So these protest basically began as a demand for an exposure of the details surrounding his death/punishment for police wrongdoing, but of course, like always, the people who actually give a shit are in the minority and the rest just want an excuse to steal shit and tear shit up without any repercussions. Then the media just focuses on the pieces of shit tearing shit up and acting like wild animals while the people who actually give a shit are ignored because by that point it's a lost cause.

It's the Michael Brown/Ferguson, MO shit all over again.

Xenocide - 2015-04-28

My favorite media bullshit moment so far: they've been showing photos of a bunch of white teenagers clearly looting a store, but spinning it as "citizens forced to grab whatever basic provisions they need to survive."

In the photos they are carrying doritos and beer.

infinite zest - 2015-04-28

Yeah, total media bullshit. Kettle Chips are way better.

Good natured brawling!

The Mothership - 2015-04-28

We were listening to Hannity....

Xenocide - 2015-04-28

Oh, a city is on fire? That means either a black kid was murdered by cops or white folks are excited about the results of a football game.

jangbones - 2015-04-28

bullshit, sometimes white people riot over basketball games

infinite zest - 2015-04-28

It pains me to say this, and I don't know the whole situation (just watched the video like everyone else) but a spinal injury is something that's very hard to detect. Proper Red Cross training of course requires you to take that into account, but you can't take those precautions with someone who is actively resisting. Unlike other incidents that resulted in death, the motivation here didn't seem the same (like opening fire) like they WANTED to cause further back damage, nor knew that he was recovering from spine surgery a week prior? That's pretty impossible to know. It by no means makes it right, and the cops did something wrong, but it's no reason to tear the city apart.

Bobonne - 2015-04-29

Not really. You just have to use your brain, man. C'mon.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/bs-md -gray-rough-rides-20150423-story.html#page=1

Sometimes, "we didn't mean to kill him, just to maybe paralyze him a little at most!" isn't an acceptable excuse. This is not an isolated incident. This is not an overreaction. This is the straw breaking a camel's back, though calling it a 'straw' is pretty fucking dismissive, really.

yogarfield - 2015-04-29

They call it a nickel ride.

infinite zest - 2015-04-30

Agreed. I was thrown into a paddy wagon in Seattle in November 1999 for no fucking reason except I was there, and again 2 years ago for falling off my bike in front of 2 cop cars. Both cases were worse that sitting in the back of a u haul. Pigs enjoy this shit to an extent, but it takes a special circle of hell to believe that the resulting death would be worse than what I assume is done hundreds of times a day.

infinite zest - 2015-04-30

"Would be intentionally worse." iPhone

infinite zest - 2015-04-30

Also sorry b&b.. Circle of hell for the cops.. I'm kinda drunk.

infinite zest - 2015-04-30

http://www.wweek.com/portland/article-863-the_final_chapter.html
That's John, an acquaintance of mine from back in the day who died in police custody. Successful owner of probably the best restaurant in town.

http://www.wweek.com/portland/article-6212-why_did_james_chass e_jr_die.html

And this is James, a good friend of mine who also died in police custody. In the former case, cops love roughing up drunkies: in my case I was sober enough to remember the whole thing. Basically I was slightly over the legal limit when I fell off my bike 3 blocks from home. I was wearing a helmet of course, but fucked up my arm. And they didn't take that into consideration when I asked the guards to give a puking homeless guy who had pissed himself a change of clothing and water, and threw me into solitary for the duration, all the while laughing at either the drunks falling down or Family Guy on TV. If I had fallen differently and messed up my spine, I could've been another Gray. As for John and James, I'll see you guys soon enough.

I guess my point is what everyone knows, or should know, that riots accomplish nothing, and maybe this will lead to more protocol when it comes to restraint with the detainee's safety, but again, don't destroy Baltimore. I wanna move there.

infinite zest - 2015-04-30

holy bold! How'd I do that?

yogarfield - 2015-04-30

A WILD BOLD APPEARS

Bobonne - 2015-04-30

IZ: Yes, it is intentionally worse. Shit like braking sharply at high speed multiple times, a lot of really tight, sharp, turns...the idea is to literally bounce the person inside around violently enough to seriously injure them. No straps or belts when it's happening, and their hands are probably cuffed behind their backs, too, making it almost impossible to even try and brace or catch themselves.

The only reason it isn't always a case of murder is that they usually stop when the person inside is just badly battered and maybe paralyzed. Usually.

I'm not sure if you're arguing they aren't doing it on purpose or not, but my typing this doesn't hurt anybody anyway, so...eh, two minutes well wasted, in any case.

Simillion - 2015-04-29

I wonder what direction the riots will turn when they finally get to announcing that they're going to let the cops off. I mean, maybe a paid vacation is enough reason to throw a massive shitfit, but the real rationale behind public chaos and violence has yet to come. I am pretty sure it will. For anything < 2nd degree murder this makes sense to me, and those cops will definitely be getting less than that.

chumbucket - 2015-04-29

Orioles win a game?

Each riot is more limp and ineffectual than the last. Americans can't even do revolution right anymore.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-04-29

Rodney King ruined American rioting.

Scynne - 2015-04-29

I wish Samuel L. Jackson was in charge of police there. WASTE THE MOTHERFUCKERS!
