From her tone it seems pretty clear she's doing something akin to what That Guy says below, like "Good on her, she looks similar to me!" That would be cute and banal if it were hair color or some shit, but chumminess between white people does not have the best historical reputation, so it is less cute.

It's like the anchor thought that she and the girl both had red hair and she was congratulating her for joining her in the ginger club, but then forgot that she didn't have red hair and was saying skin color instead.

There are a bunch of clips like this where a TV announcer says something ignorant, I feel like it should be a game; "are you ready to play the game the built modern America? RACIST OR STUPID!!!

Should we be happy that she didn't say, "At least she's not a goddam lesbo!"

What I'd like to know is, why would it even *matter* if she were racist? What's wrong with diversity? Since when was it a bad thing to offer multiple editorial views? The news should present all sides of the issues they cover; in part, this means that any news channel which is concerned about upholding journalistic integrity, needs to hire at least ONE token racist.

This need for diversity in the news-place is particularly pressing in Australia, where censorship laws are strong, and it may be difficult for non-non-racists (who constitute a significant majority of Australia's underclass) to both find allies within the ranks of Australia's privileged elite who share their values, and to make their voices heard.

I'm wondering if she's so stupid that she was thinking about it as if they were both fans of the same team or band or something, and didn't realize that that sounds different when you're saying "congrats on choosing white not black!".
