DA-DA-DUN-DA-DA-DAAAHHH!

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-05-01

But the salesmen from Lockheed Martin swore up and down that this was a suitable replacement for the A10. I know, it looks a little rough around the edges, but early days, man. Early days.

takewithfood - 2015-05-01

They thought of everything. Bravo!

FABIO - 2015-05-01

That movie would have been so much better if they went with the story of the opening montage instead of the joyless tone and screenwriting 101 junk that was the rest.

Hooker - 2015-05-01

Fuck you and I hate you. Pacific Rim was perfect.

fluffy - 2015-05-01

I have to say I'm with FABIO on this one. I really don't get why everyone thinks that movie was the bees' knees. The story was trite and predictable, and everyone keeps on going on about how what's-her-name is finally a female action movie hero who has a feminist angle but all I saw was a girl with daddy issues and permanent helpless-damsel/sidekick status.

infinite zest - 2015-05-02

It was perfect for what it was. ACTING = fail. STORY = fail. A mainstream attempt at a mecha v. kaiju movie for International audiences? WIN! If you want a whole bunch of your contemplative drama with your mechs, I dunno, there's probably a collective 100,000 hours of anime to sift through. And if you ever spent big bucks on a couple of Evangelion VHSs where nothing happens and you can't return them, then you're me and you understand. And that's why Pacific Rim was awesome.

Hooker - 2015-05-02

Aside from the scientists, the casting of Pacific Rim was horrendous. But it was still an amazing kaiju movie and I have to assume that people who didn't like it just don't actually like kaiju movies. Maybe they like the idea of kaiju movies in the same way I like the idea of old, foreign language films but also similarly find the act of actually watching them tedious and repellent. It's fine. You don't have to like them. I watched them when I was a child and they captured my imagination in a big way, and aside from the 90s Gamera trilogy and Godzilla: GMK, no kaiju movies in my lifetime have captured the sense of wonder, scale, and simplicity of the genre like Pacific Rim.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-05-02

What I think pacific rim got right was the sense of danger. Main characters and Jaegers fail and get picked off regularly (even the 1st fight shown) A palpable threat and real sense of tension was well established.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-02

I'm just picturing fluffy standing face to face with this huge, badass mecha that's just blown up an eighty-story tall squid-monster, all this pounding, uplifting guitar-music playing in the background, and the mecha looks down at him and he looks up at it... and fluffy just shrugs, and in this really nasally vocal fry says "Meh. What about the story?"

Binro the Heretic - 2015-05-02

1 - GIANT MONSTERS!

2 - GIANT ROBOTS!

3 - GIANT ROBOTS FIGHTING GIANT MONSTERS!

4 - SKYSCRAPERS GETTING SMASHED!

5 - CARGO SHIP USED AS MELEE WEAPON!

6 - JET-ASSISTED FACE-PUNCH!

7 - HANNIBAL CHAU'S SUIT!

8 - YOU OWE ME A KAIJU BRAIN!

9 - BIG-ASS SWORD!

10 - FUCK YOU!

blue vein steel - 2015-05-02

I think it achieved what it was trying to be, which is as much as a purposely silly genre movie can hope for. I really enjoyed both of my times watching it and recommended it to friends. That is my insightful criticism of the giant fighting robot movie.

Gmork - 2015-05-02

Pacific Rim sucked so many balls I was afraid its cheeks would rupture.

Gmork - 2015-05-02

Evangelion? Nothing happens?

I'm pretty sure you've only seen episodes and not the reboots or the combined movies. The show didnt have enough budget, all the best stuff is happening AFTER the actual series came out.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-02

Gmork hates Pacific Rim, too. I am noticing a pattern here.

infinite zest - 2015-05-02

I mean, things happen in Eva, but it wasn't the mecha action I thought it would be, especially when I was 14. A few years later I got a vcd with every episode and it's my favorite, but not then. Compare PR to another Kaiju movie with Heisenberg in it. He's great in it but it's like an hour with just Heisenberg talking and no kaiju

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-05-01

I like the big floppy sword.

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-05-02

The whole "looking very dramatic and dangerous, then folding like a cheap suit as soon as it takes action" thing is very appealling on a number of different levels.
