I wonder if they'll get other voice actors or simply resolve, temporarily or permanently (the latter of which would fucking blow my mind) to never have those characters speak again.

Act One, Scene One: Flanders, Burns, Smithers, Otto, et al. are all suddenly killed in a freak landslide.

Cut to title card reading "SIX MONTHS LATER"

Simpson family is having breakfast together. Marge loudly says, "WE'VE MOVED ON," to no one in particular.

The episode then proceeds to enact its plot about Homer's wacky new job as a TV Chef, featuring special guest Guy Fieri.

Principal Skinner, Kent Brockman, Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Dr. Hibbert, Lenny Leonard, Otto Mann, Rainier Wolfcastle, Dr. Marvin Monroe and many others died on their way back to their home planet.

Hey I can do a pretty good Mr. Burns.. can I have millions of dollars for 10 minutes of work now?

SolRo - 2015-05-14

meh, musicians get way more money for singing for 2 minutes.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-14

MILLIONS? Oh, you. The voice actors took a hard pay cut a few seasons ago, and actually, they're only making about 0,000 per episode now.

The poor things.

TeenerTot - 2015-05-14

I only get 50 an hour.

Crab Mentality - 2015-05-14

The Simpsons will end when it's either no longer profitable (Good luck!) or one of the major voice actors dies.

I could care less about the Simpsons, although I love them for a few seasons as a kid, so a lot of that site is over my head but their timeline sounds about right. 6 quality seasons is an impressive accomplishment for any TV show, usually they start to fall apart somewhere in season 3 or 4.

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-14

On the other hand, somewhere in season 4 or 5 was when I got bored and stopped paying attention.

SolRo - 2015-05-14

Well, there go many of the most iconic charecters for me.

yogarfield - 2015-05-14

Oh fuck, he died?!

Oh wait, he just quit. Yay, fuck the Simpsons.

Oh wait, he's about to die. Nvm.

Simillion - 2015-05-14

I don't think he's about to die, according to the random article I googled he left because he wanted to do outside recording work and the simpsons producer wasn't able to accomodate his additional work or something.

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-05-14

No amount of money could keep me on that sinking ship after 26 years.

Sanest Man Alive - 2015-05-14

Getting to work on a famous, long-running show is just about the best thing most voice actors can ever hope for. Being a regular on The Simpsons since its beginning is above and beyond even that.

You can talk big about how you'd balk at clinging to a "sinking ship" (sinking for how many years now, exactly? Icebergs have melted faster), but regardless of the quality of the output, it's a good, steady paycheck for doing what you enjoy with people you've known for years, and that counts for a lot of loyalty in any profession. I don't think any one of those VAs isn't at least a little grateful The Simpsons has run on long enough to be a joke in and of itself.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-14

I think the amount of money the actors got could keep me on that sinking ship.

Hooker - 2015-05-14

I'm not defending Harry Shearer or anything (although, if I had to think about it, I want the show to just die already, so I guess I support his decision), but I imagine that he's already fabulously wealthy because of the show, so wanting to retire outweighs the extra money he has no need for.

That said, it would be a better message if he quit when he began talking about how shitty the show is getting back in the late 90s.

That said, if I just had to talk in funny voices and got paid ,000 a year for it, I'd sign on if the show was 10x worse than the already staggeringly-bad Simpsons.

Hooker - 2015-05-14

Meant to be a reply to the conversation directly above this post, 'natch.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2015-05-14

I hope he retires to a solid gold house with rocket car.
