I feel bad for anyone living farther North than about San Francisco or so.

I've lived around the PNW for about half my life and have never seen more than an inch of snow on the ground.

It got down to -22 and I required crampons to walk anywhere this winter. It was like a magical adventure!

The worst I ever saw in Seattle was 11" of snow over 14 days (winter of 2008-2009), and that was a once in a lifetime kind of event. Most years it will snow maybe once, and be gone in a day or two.

Now I'm in the land of winter with a capital WINTER (NW Wisconsin), and ugh. At least we don't get lake-effect snow, I guess.

I remember one winter as a child when we had enough snow to go sledding down our hill in the Portland suburbs. Something like 4"-6" of snow for a weekend, it was great, but very rare.

I remember that 2008 winter; my ex and I had just moved to Portland (well I moved back) from Wisconsin, mainly because of a really shitty winter, with record breaking snowfall, and I told her it never really snows here, and if it does it's gone in a day, everything shuts down, pretty fun vacation. So that happened (I think it was 8" down in Portland) and this was right when the economy crashed over Christmas, and she worked retail. Because she was the closest (about a mile and a half from the store) she was the one who had to come in. So many local businesses didn't make it that year.

oh yeah it was the lake effect snow that did it for us, we lived about two blocks from Lake Michigan in Milwaukee. That city knows what it's doing and never skips a beat when it snows, so it's telling that the whole city shut down because of one particular blizzard, even big chains like Wal Marts, Pick and Saves, etc. all closed early. Except for the goddamn movie theatre I worked at. Entire night, maybe 3 people showed up.

That looks incredibly dangerous.
