I'm waiting for the oculus rift release before I buy another PC.

I haven't had great experiences with anything 3D. It is novel for a while then all the equipment makes my neck hurt or gives me a headache. When they make an oculus rift that I can wear like a pair of glasses, then I'll give it a try again. But I have a tendency to keep looking around at stuff even when I'm playing a game (like my phone or out the window to check the weather).

Even 3D televisions leave me flat.

Unless you plan on going over 1080P I would suspect that your new PC will handle this game with no issues, as would any gaming rig after about 2012.

Oculus mentioned it as the 'minimum recommended' card + plenty of people with DK2 are playing the latest games with one so I'm happy (If I really need a boost I'll just buy a 2nd and SLI them >:D )

Anyway I dont normally get pumped for AAA games but I have a softspot for fallout. I havent even watched the trailer yet and I'm excited

I don't understand why people keep saying this, it hardly looks any better than Bioshock Infinite. Not that graphics really matter that much if it is a good game, I just don't understand the sentiment.

Yeah.. that's like 2 days in a row for me. Fallout 1 and X-Com are probably tied with Red Alert for favorite game, even though I never played the sequels. By the time both games come out I'm thinking there'll be another price drop too. Kinda sucks because I just spent a total of 30 bucks on Black Flag and MGS5; why the fuck isn't Xbone backwards compatible when lots of the games come out on 360 and Xbone?

Or you should at least get some sort of free trade in for the games that are.. the reason why I liked PC gaming so much was because I could eventually get a game like Quake to run awesomely, even though I had it on minimum settings when I first got it, because I'd upgrade my system when I had the money to. I know it doesn't mean that the 360 stops working when you get a new one but having two systems for the same game is just kind of stupid.

XCOM 2 is a PC exclusive. It's not coming to Xbox One or any other consoles, interestingly enough.

Interesting. I guess that makes sense.. I can't really imagine a game like xcom or red alert working too well with a console, unless you got a keyboard and mouse of course. I'd get a nice desktop for gaming but I move every few months, and it seems like all good gaming laptops are out of my price range.. curse these first world problems..

@IZ Moving a desktop is no more work really than moving a console + tv.
You just need a desk or table in your place to put it on.
I move a lot and I have a desktop pc. I have this steel computer desk thats the only piece of furniture I dont regret buying*. Its really light and strong + I can easily assemble and disassemble it for transport.
You can buy a micro atx mobo and small case and still build a powerful machine. Just make sure the graphics card fits in!

*That was in my heady youth. I would never buy any furniture nowadays, since I've learned how easy it is to throw some together from from wood. You save like 95% of the cost + you get *exactly* what you want to your exact specifications and dimensions.

Cool. Officially, the 360 isn't mine; someone who lived there left it and nobody knows who's it is so I paid a month of utilities for everyone so I could keep it when I move out since I'm the only one who uses it. I've actually never bought a TV, DVD player, etc. even when I was married and planning on settling down for the long haul. People just up and leave and freebox their shit, hence my frankenstein of a computer, which is a dell laptop which got stomped on so the monitor doesn't work and two LCD monitors I found thrown out by an office.. things like that.

Speaking of making your own furniture, I had it pretty good for a while since I lived next door to a woodworker. He'd just spend a couple of hours and there's a table. Didn't charge me or anything.. just bummed a couple (probably a total of hundreds) of cigarettes from me.

This one isn't by Obsidian, it'll be from Bethesda's in-house development studios. I'm still very excited. I enjoyed Fallout 3 (also Bethesda in-house) very much, even though New Vegas was 100x better.

Yeah...I know that. It's what I meant. When Obsidian's rumored Los Angeles-based FO of this gen gets made, rather than 4 itself.

You should always hold off buying a Bethesda game until the modding community has done their thing.

New vegas had the more advanced mechanics and polished weapon/combat system, but fallout 3's random encounters, vaults, quests and entire worldmap were much more non-linear and in my opinion, just plain better.

New vegas is riddled with invisible walls, annoying and counter-intuitive areas of the overworld map, and isn't as much exploration as being funneled towards the main city like walking along a big inverted U-shaped turd. They funnel you with deathclaws and cazadores and mountains, holding your hand as they make you go from primm to nipton.

In Fo3? A mad benny-hill dash, grabbing a stealth boy along the way, to Rivet City, and you were good to go. The entirety of the worldmap is yours to explore.

To each his own. New Vegas is more of an "on-rails" open-world game - have choices but make them in the same order every time. The big ones, anyways. Fo3 is more for exploring. For having an experience in a fleshed-out world. New Vegas is for people who want a quick story and to flit from mission to mission, in a completionist frenzy.

The "divide" DLC was a pile of puke. The Casino DLC was alright, the best thing about it were the new weapons (spears and bear trap fists? yes please).

The Big Mountain Science DLC was honestly the best thing to happen to New Vegas.

I liked New Vegas. It probably sounds like I don't, but I was just disappointed because I prefer the Fo3 exploratory, mostly free-form experience vs the rigidity of NV.

Oh, and James Urbaniak (the voice of Dr. Venture) and the amazing dialogue choices and interactions in the Big Mountain DLC were almost redeeming of New Vegas' lackluster worldmap.

Surprisingly enough, Gmork is almost entirely correct! The one issue with F3 which he fails to mention is the Oblivion-style enemy scaling. Absurd enemy scaling and the overall futility of character growth were the biggest flaws in Oblivion (otherwise my favorite RPG of all time), and F3 definitely inherited that legacy.

What they should have done for F3 was hired some community modders, like Oscuro, to handle the game balancing.

Yeah, I didn't get into NV as quickly as I did F3. The first time through I quit playing after making it to Vegas, as the plot was just so obvious and I was annoyed at having to make the choice of which ending to have so early in the game. I have gone back to it though, and I think NV does have better characters (Best Friend Tabitha!), and a little more polish on the mechanics.

But yeah, F3s open world-ness was more fun the first time around, and feels more like fallout. NV is awfully linear.

NV doesn't fuck around on its main storyline.

You wanna blaze through the game, you can do so, as any faction, in less than ten quests or so. In less than ten hours on a legion playthrough, quite often.

But there are a LOT more side-quests than in FO3, and they're much, much, BETTER side-quests than FO3's. And a lot of those side-quests support the thematic story of the game, enhance your feel for the setting, provide you memorable NPCs, and affect the main storyline's outcomes, or at least do a really GOOD job of making it FEEL like it affects them.

Fuck, I still haven't played all the side-quests in NV yet, and I've got, like, 700+ hours of the game under my belt.

Plus, unlike a lot of games, the faction you choose to support can VASTLY change how you play the game. An NCR playthrough and a Legion playthrough tend to be very different from one another. ...well, different, anyway, rather than just 'pick a color on this console!'.

Man, I love New Vegas way too much, especially considering I didn't play it until 2013 or so.

Yeah.. I think I'm gonna trade in my Black Flag for the cheaper Fallout NV. Black Flag's just not doing it for me. The story's amazingly stupid with all the Animus crap, and the gameplay's not that much fun. It's just pretty is all: it's the video game equivalent of a "basic bitch." NV seems more up my alley.

I've managed to run NV pretty smoothly on a really quite weak (for gaming) system (2-core pentium from the last few years, 4 gigs of ram, 7850 HD (or whatever the equivalent was for the 800-something AMD series of cards, which were basically just refreshes of the 7000 series) graphics card). Virtually never crashes, rarely glitches too much, except for some of those damned freeside/mormon fort gates.

#1 tip for playing NV: If you ever get into an endless loading screen when you try and load a save file, ctrl-alt-del close the game, start it back up, then choose 'new game', skip the intro movie and hit escape as soon as you get to the in-game 'waking up in bed' part, then load the save that had hung from there. It'll load 99.9% of the time. Then make a new save on the spot, and reload from that one, instead.

The most useful advice for playing the game I ever got, so I'll just pass it on.

I will keep that tip in mind if I ever can afford a gaming PC. Ideally, I'd play games on a PC, but man are those rigs expensive.

Mine cost me about 0 or so Canadian, maybe, (180 or so of which was just the graphics card) which would probably be more like 0 American (we get screwed HARD on consumer electronics and pc prices).

Cheaper than a new console, and capable of playing almost all the PC games out there, though some would need to go to low-resolutions that'd look a little worse than the consoles (the big extravagent really badly optimized ones, that is: most games, I can play way better looking than the consoles could manage).

Of course, that was with me building it myself, but that's actually really easy to do if you watch a few tutorial videos and whatnot.

You really don't need a massive processor or any more than 8 gigs of ram or a fancy motherboard for a gaming rig, unless you also plan on streaming your gaming to others. You can build a decent one for far less than the pre-built systems you'll see being sold...well...anywhere.

Yeah, pre-builds really inflate the price and it's not worth it. It's literally hundreds of dollars cheaper to do a few minutes of research on Google, purchase the parts, and put it together yourself.

The same system that Microcenter wanted 00 for prebuilt I went and picked out the parts from their parts department and put it together myself for about 0. I'm not even very savvy when it comes to hardware, I just used Google and followed directions from people who are.

Yup. The only possibly iffy bits are putting in the processor and the ram, and making sure you stay grounded throughout. But even those are more nerve-wracking than actually difficult, as long as you study up beforehand and take it slow, and the grounding bit is as easy as perversely stroking some metallic parts on your case every couple of minutes and maybe not doing the build on thick carpeting while wearing a sweater (though I've actually built a PC while wearing a thick sweater and wool socks and standing on a carpet, so...it's not as 'clean room standards' as you might think, so long as you really molest some metal to keep discharging yourself.)

I'm already discharging from molesting all this metal!

Now I guess I need some PC parts to install...

I think this year would be fairly wishful thinking. I assume holiday 2016 at best, but who knows, it's possible they pull a Firaxis-style announcement and just give it to us now.

I would bet the farm that it's going to release this year and that they will announce that fact at E3 next week.
