Same thing on Tono News:

Tono tono tono tono, tono tono. Tono tono tono tono tono, tono tono tono, tono tono? Tono.

infinite zest - 2015-06-05

What's the deal with TOHO anyway? Is it like a parody of those Chinese CGI news videos adapted for the TMZ-watching crowd?

EvilHomer - 2015-06-05

Taiwanese, and yes IZ. Tomo is actually owned by the same company which makes NMA, the funny CGI videos you are thinking of.

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/introducing-tomonews-t he-new-brainchild-of-the-taiwanese-animators-220326381.html

I can see why you're getting a TMZ vibe, and I totally agree that Tomo is nowhere near as good as the original subbed NMA videos. I think the problem is that the people NMA hired for Tomo are stuck in the same mindset as whomever handled the English localization of GameCenter-CX. I've discussed the failure of RetroGameMaster at quite some length already, so in brief, what I think has happened is that producers are stuck in a "Most Extreme Elimination" mindset. They believe American audiences will only accept something that's "weird and Asian" if it is presented in that stilted, faux-gravitas style popularized by MXE. It's focus-group level thinking, and it fucking sucks.

infinite zest - 2015-06-06

What mxe did with takeshi's castle was more like iron chef, just with more Dingdong racism, suitable for spike tv. Toho still confuses me:?did the nma videos really catch enough attention to make an Americanized one? It just seemed like a couple of unintentionally funny cgi recreations that went viral, but nothing close to even a less successful meme by internet standards.

EvilHomer - 2015-06-06

I'm pretty sure NMA was successful by anyone's standards. IIRC, they were even recurring segments on The Colbert Report, or the Daily Show, one of those things.

EvilHomer - 2015-06-06

Tomo's got a respectable amount of traffic, too. They're not up to the same standards of popularity as someone like Katy Perry, Lia Marie Johnson, or that guy with the stupid voice, but they've got a half million subscribers - almost twenty-thousand times more than our own JHMF!

infinite zest - 2015-06-06

It doesn't surprise me that it was on Colbert or Oliver or the like, but usually those things are kind of forgotten about. Guess I didn't see clunky early-oughts CGI catching on with the mainstream.. sure didn't work for Xavier Renegade Angel, or anyone outside of this site that I showed CGI Mickey Mouse Nightmare to..

misterbuns - 2015-06-05

the fuck is wrong with that guy's voice

Robin Kestrel - 2015-06-05

Petco, who initially denied that they used heated drying cages at all, have now announced that they've removed "that type of drying cage" from their stores.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-06-06

It would be funny if the story weren't so horrible. :(

You go fat lady. I hope you sue Petco out of business.
