This is right and true, and I agree with it, but it doesn't really get to the heart of the issue. America's problems with education are really a symptom of poverty and income inequality (he touches on it, but in a roundabout way). As long as America's economic system is unfair to the vast majority, its educational system will be as well.

I was worried this was going to turn into a tech-evangelist trying to promote gutting public schools & getting everyone into (necessarily private) MOOCs.
I'm actually reasonably happy to see people on the "left" (such as this is) crushing nuance to convince people. The right-wingers do it way too often, and unfortunately it works.
