One of the most perplexing and potentially harmful fetishes. Oh sure, it's all fantasy until you find yourself feeding your wife into a wood chipper.

EvilHomer - 2015-06-12

I don't see that to be the case at all! Such thinking is essentially the child of two notorious fallacies: the idea that video games make kids kill their parents, and the notion that being a sexual deviant Gay will turn you into a child molester. Ryona fetishists seem rather friendly; there's no indication that they're any more harmful than, say, your average crossdresser, voreaphile, or breath-play enthusiast, and ryonafags are markedly less creepy than some of their cousins, like cannibal-guro, loli guro, and Western Dunsul enthusiasts. Perplexing, sure, most fetishes are to the outsider (ahem, inflationists!), but honestly, the only fetish community which I'd go so far as to say is actively potentially harmful is the crush fetish community, and that's because their videos cross the line into outright snuff. Possibly also the bugchasing community, although since the harm there is (presumably) limited to the individual, I guess I can't judge those freaks too harshly.

That said, if IZ's wife ever threw a soul-powered fireball at him, I don't think we could judge him too harshly if he decided to use telekinesis to rip out her spine.

Oh I was being facetious. Thanks for broadening my fetish horizons though!

EvilHomer - 2015-06-12

Man, I could go on about fetishes for days! I probably shouldn't be doing this at work, but screw it, happy to oblige, Mr Fever.

P.S. I believe I was in error before, "Dunsul enthusiasts" should have read "Dolcett enthusiasts". IIRC, Dolcett was the artist, Dunsul was merely the website where fans of said artist congregated, but I can't really check right now for obvious reasons. Also, I should probably have included the consensual cannibalism community in with bugchasers, although I'd argue that CC is ultimately less harmful, in that CC is far rarer (I only know of that one German case off the top of my head; again, not going to check, because work) and that, due CC's finality, any further harm is rendered impossible - bugchasers might, in theory, go on to infect non-bugchasers with STDs (although I am not aware of there being a significant problem with unethical (i.e. deceptive) gifting within the bugchasing community).

But EvilHomer, don't vore enthusiasts also cross over into snuff territory in many cases?

Some of them do, but snuff voreaphiels and non-snuff voreaphiles tend to maintain distinct communities, and in my experience many voreaphiles steer clear from outright snuff. For example, there's a marked difference between "soft vore" (basic swallowing) and "hard vore" (anything that involves blood; typically chewing, and sometimes digestion, although I believe digestion can count as soft vore, just so long as the digestion process does not dwell explicit body mutilations and/or scatting). Even when the vore scenario focuses on more than just the simple act of eating and swallowing, it seems that more often than not, the prey character merely winds up sitting around in the pred's belly, enjoying him/herself. (this is particularly true when the Pred is a domineering woman, but becomes less common as one ventures further out into the choppy waters of anal vore, non-anthro beast vore, and cock vore) In fact, on certain websites it's quite common to see fans of "soft vore" throw fits after accidentally stumbling upon "hard vore" material, which results in some amusingly surreal drama.

There's a similar dynamic with ryonaphiles (? is that a word?). That is to say, from what I have observed, ryona fetishists are sometimes also snuff fetishists, but not all ryona material involves snuff, and there appears to be a large contingent of ryonaphiles who are actually turned off by gore and death. Overall, ryona seems to occupy a sort of midpoint between guro and mainline S&M; with the wrestling ryona † and superheroine ryona sub-communities being markedly less likely to be interested in snuff than, say, the video game ryona or DiD ryona sub-communities. Even when snuff is involved, for ryonaphiles, death seems to be less the focus of the fetish, and more just a byproduct - the real draw being peril or defeat, often masochistic rather than sadistic (which goes back to my previous argument, that ryona/ voreaphile/ etc fetishists are "less creepy" than Dolcett and loli guro enthusiasts, on the grounds that those latter fetishes are more often than not explicitly sadistic).

Anyway, these are all just my own amateur observations, and they could be completely off-base. I haven't studied any of these groups at great length, and I've never had the opportunity to conduct any form of professional, quantitative polling or research, so feel free to dispute any of my claims!

† I'd just like to add that there IS a distinction between wrestling ryona and the older wrestling fetish community!!! Most of the old wrestling fetish community seems to be an offshoot of femdom, and focuses almost exclusively on FvM squash matches and male humiliation. *Ryona* wrestling seems to be far more into FvF yuri and MvF femalesub stuff - except for the gyaku wrestling community, of course, which goes back to malesub scenarios! My own theory is that the wrestling ryona subcommunity fractured off the mainline wrestling fetish community, largely as a response to malesub hegemony, and that this dissident group of femsubbers coalesced with the online superheroine, VG Girl, and guro fetish communities to create what the internet now calls "ryona".

Of course, as before, I could be completely wrong about this. I am not sure when the professional, high-budget Japanese cosplay/ryona video industry got started, but it seems to have existed for many years, decades perhaps.

I'm definitely not into the fetish or violence towards women (or men), and for the record I wouldn't really want anything bad to happen to my wife, but after she split for NOLA, I wished and prayed for another Katrina to hit the city. Had that happened, I would've felt horrible, even if the entire hurricane was somehow localized entirely in her house. So that's a lot worse than watching Sonya Blade die a hundred times!

They say statistically that crime rates go down when a new GTA comes out; I don't know how true that is but it's a good way to get aggression out at work, etc.. wasting a few hundred people and crashing an airplane into a building isn't psychopathic behavior, it's just blowing off steam. All those people are your fucking boss, douchebag co-workers, etc. So I guess this is pretty much the same for this guy, and maybe a lot of those unlucky in love who would never hurt a fly. I just find it weird that his videos keep popping up in my "recommended for you," like YT knows my life story or something.

These are just ridiculous now, and not very inventive.

I think everybody agrees that Cassie's Selfie fatality is the best (though technically it's not a fatality) and I would've liked more humor like that. The awesomeness of a spine being ripped out when I was 11 or whenever original MK came out was cool, but I quickly became more enamored with Time Killers, even though the gameplay sucked in comparison because it was fun to flail around with one arm and such. MK's not all about the fatalities, but I'd rather play a Tekken if I'm just looking for a fun fighting game, so really these are its bread and butter, considering the franchise nearly collapsed on itself with the PG13 movies and Teen rated games, not to mention almost brought the SNES down with it. With a little more thought and effort, some of the lazy fatalities, some of which are pretty much the same for two different characters, could be drastically improved.

infinite zest - 2015-06-12

Jeez. I was only 9 when it came out. I feel like I didn't even hear about it until 1993 or 4.
