the best reviews are when drunkebbert and shortsiskel disagree.

SolRo - 2015-06-16

for that dis at the end.

infinite zest - 2015-06-16

I'm just gonna 5 star it because I like these guys, but without spoiling anything is there much worth spoiling? I mean, I didn't care that I knew the ending of Mad Max before I saw it. But I'd assume there's gotta be SOMETHING here that separates it from 1-3.. From the trailers I know that Starlord can talk to dinosaurs and they made a super Dino by mistake but other than that it just makes sense to stick to the formula of "everything's perfect now it's not.." I dunno, the 11 year old me kinda really wants to see this.

Mister Yuck - 2015-06-16

They spoil what seems like an incredibly stupid and tacked on twist that probably isn't gonna ruin your enjoyment of the movie.

infinite zest - 2015-06-17

I'm just gonna spoil it for myself: Newman never died and BD Wong was actually in cahoots with him the whole time? They make a big dinosaurus rex and then Starlord comes along and is like "hey guys.."

that's your NBC thursday night lineup

infinite zest - 2015-06-17

holy shit. I swear I didn't watch this before I wrote that.

fluffy - 2015-06-16

"Not as cynical or stupid or forced as a Michael Bay movie." There's a quote for the posters.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-16

You could pretty much eliminate every other high profile Youtuber except these guys and Ashens and not much would be lost.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-06-17

Surely we could spare Robbaz as well!

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-17

I always forget how popular he s. I don't really watch his videos much but I'll let him squeak by.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-19

OH, and Joerg, of course.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-16

Incidentally, can someone explain to me why a used N64 is worth so much money these days? I see them going for 0-0 on eBay pretty regularly, while a first gen Playstation (which happens to be an insanely nice sounding CD player) is maybe . What's the deal? Do people just like Mario Party that much? I know that's the main reason I hung on to mine.

SolRo - 2015-06-16

waverace 64!

no, ehh, because the 64 stopped being made and the ps1 kept being made for centuries, the market is flooded?

SolRo - 2015-06-16

and im just guessing but n64 cartridges aren't forward compatible with anything else, while the ps1 games are on CDs and you could easily play them on the ps2

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-16

Good points.

It really is about the finest CD player you'll find under 00 though.

infinite zest - 2015-06-16

Nice! I've got 2 n64s just collecting dust. Can't you just get all those games on the wii store though? I know it's kind of like saying you can get an MP3 rather than vinyl, but the cartridge medium didn't really catch on, or did it?

SolRo - 2015-06-16

can you get that awesome banana controller in the wii store? huh? HUH?!?

Void 71 - 2015-06-16

N64 emulation being dog shit is probably one of the main reasons the systems are holding their value. Strangely enough, Gamecube/Wii (same hardware) emulation is in a much better place and has been for years.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-16

I paid for mine with 4 controllers, two memory cards, that upgrade chip and about a dozen games with a carrying case for another and I honestly feel like that was a pretty fair price. Ebay is crazy.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-16

That was like 12 years ago, but still.

Potrod - 2015-06-16

I don't even know when OZ is joking about stuff like the PSX as CD player anymore. I looked it up and there seems to be a real debate about it, but since it's impossible to prove either way I just concluded that both sides of the argument are completely full of shit.

SolRo - 2015-06-16

I'm sure our resident troll will shortly emerge from his hole to give a dissertation from the research he's done on the subject.

Hooker - 2015-06-16

Wait, what's this about N64 emulation being shit? Because Project 64 has done a fantastic job of emulating the system for like ten years now.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-17

Potrod, I wouldn't actually buy one but I stumbled on one and they really do sound great. I had some pretty solid players to compare it to (some variety of Kyocera from the 80s and an NAD, neither in the ludicrous "audiophile" zone but both very respectable) and it sounded noticeably better than either.

But then I can't speak for anyone else but haven't actually played a CD in close to a decade so who cares?

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-17

I'm always joking even when I'm not.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-06-16

I knew that fucking hamster ball would be problematic.

And I know Henry Wu did kind of become a background character in the first movie, but in the book, he was the guy who figured out how to create the dinosaurs.

Also in the book, a velociraptor dropped from the roof onto his head and sliced him wide open.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2015-06-17

To be fair, Ian Malcolm died, too. I think John Hammond also didn't survive the novel.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-06-17

Hammond was killed in the book. As far as Malcolm goes, there was only the implication that he'd died.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-06-17

While the readers never got to see Malcolm actually die, it was made pretty clear he did. He had been on the edge of death for the last third of the book then one of the characters who had been in the room tending to him said he had died before help arrived.

He was only brought back in the sequel because Jeff Goldblum had been so popular in the role and Spielberg begged Crichton to resurrect Malcolm so he could use him in the sequel.

That's not to say Spielberg wouldn't have used him again, anyway. The second JP movie ended up bearing little resemblance to the book. But I'm sure having Malcolm as a central character in the second novel made things a lot easier.

rustedmutt - 2015-06-16

I'm all for supporting my local breweries, but New Glarus's Spotted Cow has an aftertaste reminiscent of creamed corn that I just can't stomach.

infinite zest - 2015-06-16

Agreed! It is really good with the cherry beer from NG tho. First beer I ever (legally) drank was a bottle of spotted cow at the paradise in Madison. Bartender broke the top when opening it and I spent my 21st unknowingly spewing blood from my mouth after I cut my upper lip. So that's my association I guess :)

Scrimmjob - 2015-06-16

I personally prefer the squirrel one. is it fat squirrel? i dunno..

infinite zest - 2015-06-17

Yeah Fat Squirrel is really good. What's weird is the best Wisconsin beer (or any beer) I've ever had was from Leinenkugel's: it was some IPA they were making in small batches in the summer of 2007 and holy shit! Beats anything on the west coast.

Bort - 2015-06-16

I will always love Chris Pratt because of Andy Dwyer on "Parks and Recreation".

But I will always be disappointed in anything new Chris Pratt does because of Andy Dwyer on "Parks and Recreation".

Binro the Heretic - 2015-06-17

Confessions:

- I never got into "Parks & Recreation" because it looked like a knock-off of "The Office" so Chris Pratt to me is Emmett from "The Lego Movie" and Starlord from "Guardians of the Galaxy."

- I never watched "Community" because it also kind of struck me as a knock-off of "The Office". I became a fan of Dan Harmon because of "Rick & Morty" and keep telling myself I should really check out "Community"

- Also, I've never seen a single episode of "The Wire"

Bort - 2015-06-17

Do watch "Parks and Recreation". I will grant you that the first season -- the initial six episodes of the series -- are very "The Office", but that's understandable given the creative team. Where "Parks and Recreation" really succeeds is where "The Office" ultimately fails.

Dunder-Mifflin is a dead-end both in-show and production-wise: it's where people's careers and lives go to die, and the only joy to be had in it was the possibility of finding love with that cute sweet girl who blessedly, mercifully hasn't found better employment yet. That's what "The Office" was mostly running on for its first three seasons, and after that was a slow lingering decline until the end, the same eventual fate as most of the people working at Dunder-Mifflin.

Whereas the Pawnee, Indiana Parks and Recreation Department was not only about finding new ways to make their corner of the world better, the characters grew and became more interesting as time went on. And Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt's character) changed more than anyone, going from the worlds worst lump of a boyfriend into a human golden retriever: more than a little dumb but friendly, loyal, and helpful to the best of his limited faculties. And whereas Jim and Pam got pretty boring, Andy and April only got better with time.

Some silly Andy Dwyer fun:

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-17

Parks and recreation got pretty great in season two and stayed entertaining all the way up to the season with the campaign which is where I got bored and moved on, but even then it was still perfectly watchable.

Like most TV shows, seasons 2 and 3 are the best.

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-17

That "Burt Macklin" bit should have been a one off, or maybe twice tops. When it started to become a running gag in the series was around the same time a lot of elements of the writing seemed to be losing focus and experiencing a bit of SNL creep.

Bort - 2015-06-17

After the show ended, the FBI tweeted this:

Your ways were unconventional, but you'll be missed Macklin. #ParksFarewell To learn about a real FBI career, visit http://www.FBIjobs.gov
