I find 2D animation more charming and engaging than 3D. It has nothing to with me being trained in 2D and not 3D. Really. I'm not at all bitter at all the talentless hacks getting jobs moving pre-made characters around the screen without any sense of subtlety, joy, or expression.

I liked the 2D version (and music) better too. It feels like this is the result of there not being enough budget so everyone is going the even-more-corner-cutting-CGI way now (like the Sailor Moon reboot).

Between the two, I'd give the edge to the 2D version.

It's really hard for CG television animation to avoid looking generic and dull. Especially since every animated movie is CG these days, so they have to compete with all those shiny Pixar and Dreamworks visuals.

This does better than most, but still feels pretty undistinguished and looks too plastic-y. The 2-D version had a lot more personality.

But whatever, apparently they're planning to produce the 2-D version as a separate show if the 3-D one is a hit.

If this were in 2D with good character designs that did not make my eyes bleed to look at, I'd be all over it. I'd much rather watch this than the hideous 2D version trailer posted up at the top of this thread.

Speaking of which, is the 2D anime version still happening, or is this what that project turned into?
