I don't think studios care all that much about 20 year old movies unless interest in the original might be rekindled in the event of an upcoming sequel or remake. Like, I just watched Surviving The Game on yt last night too. But yay because my VHS is virtually unwatchable.

I just fast forwarded to my favorite scene.. either I'm drunk or it's sped up by kinda a lot. The fight scene plays out like a Godfrey Ho film, which is kinda silly. But then again, maybe I am drunk.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-06-24

Drunk or not, the Godfrey Ho comparison is a good one.

yogarfield - 2015-06-24

Carm, you're throwing around Ho's name as if he weren't some sort of unspeakable deity that would gladly kill you in your sleep.

My cousin wrote and directed a movie that came out a few years ago called Branded which was criticized as being the same movie but with the sacrifice of a red cow in lieu of sunglasses or something and more from an advertisers' perspective than an average Roddy Piper..

Kid Fenris - 2015-06-23

The second half of the movie never matches the first, but it's still a great watch.

infinite zest - 2015-06-23

Don't you mean the opposite?

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-24

The middle is the best.

By "middle" I mean the part between the Studio Canal logo and the closing credits.

It's personally my 3rd favorite John Carpenter film. Like Kill Bill I consider Escape from NY and LA one movie, so that's #1, and Darkstar is #2. I know a lot of people didn't like LA, but those people are dumb.

infinite zest - 2015-06-24

I do have to say that I'm not a fan of Carpenter's music in this one. It sounds like something from a cop show that's also sort of a comedy, like The Commish or something.

roofle - 2015-06-24

It ends too soon TBH.

infinite zest - 2015-06-24

Yeah. I always thought it'd make a cool series but since it was the late 80s I could see disasterous results.

Old_Zircon - 2016-06-23

IZ, Dark Star is fantastic.

This one was made after Carpenter's music went to digital synths (that started in Prince of Darkness I believe) so it's definitely a different sound than before, and not always for the better, but I still enjoy it.

Old_Zircon - 2016-06-23

I'll always have a real soft spot for The Thing and ESPECIALLY Big Trouble, just because they were the first ones I saw.

When I was in grade school, before my family could afford a VCR, I actually made an audio tape of Big Trouble in Little China by putting a boom box next to the TV, and I used to listen to that like an audio book or something.

Theres a bunch of movies and websites dedicated to showing how this movie accurately predicted our current drone-infested corporate police state NSA Bush etc etc

I love having a 'download from youtube' button.

infinite zest - 2015-06-24

? I haven't checked in years but all I remember was this YT-AVI converter that was kinda glitchy and definitely wouldn't handle an hour+ of content, kinda like YT-mp3 can't handle whole albums or really anything over 7 minutes..

Boomer The Dog - 2015-06-25

You don't have to bother to convert if you can play mp4 on your system. Firefox com, add-ons, VideoDownloadHelper.

This movie made Hulk Hogan so jealous that he convinced Vince McMahon to fund his own vanity project: No Holds Barred.

Also, the reason Roddy Piper never won the WWF title belt is because he refused to do a 'job' for Hogan, i.e. lose cleanly and make him look good. Hogan didn't trust him because he was one of the few wrestlers who wouldn't take his shit.

Hooker - 2015-06-24

The way the WWF/E wrestling business is run is that the people on top are paid ridiculously and the whole undercard is paid rotten (and forced to cover their own travel expenses, medical, etc.). It's like this because the undercard can easily be replaced but the precious few at the top who have a proven ability to draw crowds can't. Thus, talk of unionizing from the undercard can be stamped out quite easily but talk from a star is a much more difficult problem. Piper is the only star that ever tried to unionize professional wrestlers. The whole idea of professional wrestling is to build people into either tremendous heroes or tremendous villains, but most of them are just ordinary people. If they aren't ordinary, they tend to be villains. Piper is one of the few legitimate heroes.
