Trump literally equated "stories" and "statistics". This man is a gift that keeps on giving.

memedumpster - 2015-07-02

I know real life Donald Trump supporters. People who saw this and said "he's right, you know." And "when you come over the border, you're a criminal, so you're probably a rapist." These people want him to be president. Let that sink in, but please don't reach for a bottle of booze or pills.

When you're so racist you make Don Lemon feel tired, you're top notch racist.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-02

75% of the women who cross over the border are raped by their smugglers, or asked to prostitute themselves. There was a depressing documentary I submitted about people trying to cross the border where they discuss this and the number of people that die from sun exposure or even hypothermia in some desert places at night.

Donald Trump doesn't really have compassion for these people and he isn't speaking remotely in context, he just wants to associate Mexicans as inherently evil.

Not that I'm not all over stopping immigration from the border, because I am, and he does have a point when he says they aren't sending us their most qualified people. We've been siphoning off geniuses from China and India, or multi millionaires, but Mexico is turning into one giant fucking war zone and we just don't have the ability to absorb all of the people trying to flee gang violence (or the ones that are just saying that to seek asylum).

The answer? More hyperbole from conservatives and more double talk from liberals and no one has any solutions for the people who are already here and undocumented or the many trying to cross illegally out of desperation. Yay.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-02

also I recommend this documentary for anyone that despises Trump

https://youtu.be/Ke1U5GAWb7k

wherein he tries to destroy the entire country of Scotland.

memedumpster - 2015-07-02

You kind of just said they're not criminals, just stupid. They are not stupid.

http://www.teach4real.com/2014/08/25/id-rather-teach-refugee-k ids-than-americans-who-hate-refugee-kids/

The solution is easy : peel 1/500th of the dollars off the global murder budget to educate them and allow them to participate in a stable civilization. Insist the locals do likewise (which is the harder battle). We don't have the infrastructure of quality education because Americans are stupid, not them. You can't blame them for our gross negligence and failure as a people.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-02

Undoing the last four decades or so of trade deregulation that have allowed US companies to raise hell with their economy and contribute in no small way to the creation of the current mess wouldn't hurt, either.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-02

Plus, you know, ending drug prohibition across the board.

Anaxagoras - 2015-07-02

"Not that I'm not all over stopping immigration from the border, because I am, and he does have a point when he says they aren't sending us their most qualified people. "

Actually, a surprisingly large percentage of immigrants have degrees. I can't find the statistic now (and I don't want to guess at the number & get it wrong) but a lot of them *are* their most qualified people. It often takes a certain amount of resources to make the trip in the first place, so often the poorest (and least qualified) elements of foreign societies can't even leave.

memedumpster - 2015-07-02

I want to make it clear that I'm not picking a fight, ROUS. I am making the claim that we are, as a nation, capable of having an inclusive infrastructure that benefits and grows from immigrant input. Globally, at the moment, mass refugee migrations are becoming common and climate change might end up depopulating most of the South America. If we're not ready for this, which we can be if we choose to be, holding them down while billions die could end up being yet another horrific page in an already horrible history of our actions. This is a choice, not an inevitability, and I'm just throwing my hat into the "choose better, America" side of the debate. I think we should try, even if we fail and they die anyway.

I may regret these words when Western states become uninhabitable and several million Texans move to Kentucky. :)

oddeye - 2015-07-03

what is ashtar's trolling trigger?

Spaceman Africa - 2015-07-03

ashtar's got receipts on all of us

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-03

I didn't say they were stupid, they're just not on the same caliber as the professionals with degrees who are coming over from Asian countries.

Personally, I think we should siphon off only the best of the best and shut down immigration as much as possible until the economy improves and the quality of life improves for Americans altogether. Do a ten year moratorium on immigration except for really special cases, under 10,000 a year. See how that works out.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-03

But I think we can all agree that Donald Trump is an asshole.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-03

Wait, why am I listed under "ICP"? 'Everything", sure, I am willing to argue about pretty much anything; get me on an "Everything" topic and I can type for days. But I don't think I'm THAT triggered by ICP... am I?

Also, ponies. I liek Ponies! You can't troll me with Ponies, unless it's some kind of weird "compassionate"/"reverse" troll. Even if you say you hate ponies, that just gives me an excuse to talk about Ponies, and I love that.

Honestly, I think my biggest trolling vulnerability is terse, logically or semantically unsupportable statements. If I am having a serious debate with one or five people, and someone else butts in with a snarky one-line non-sequitur, my autism kicks in and I am compelled to spend at least three paragraphs over-analyzing and systematically refuting that statement, despite its being obvious troll-bait. I do that all the time; I know I do it, but I cannot help myself! Like a Toreador with a botched Willpower roll, The Rapture rushes in and The Beast takes over.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-03

Actually, shit, I just did it again. ^ Perfect illustration of what I'm talking about, right there above.

memedumpster - 2015-07-03

Thanks ashtar, we didn't give you that summon troll materia so you could abuse it, you know.

Homie, I fixed the spelling errors in your statement :

"Honestly, I think my biggest trolling vulnerability is terse, logically or semantically consistent statements. If I am obfuscating a serious debate with one or five people, and someone else butts in with a critically thought deduction, my autism kicks in and I am compelled to spend at least three paragraphs rhetoricizing and systematically ruining that discussion, despite its being obviously important."

memedumpster - 2015-07-03

Oh, and yes, Donald Trump is an asshole.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-03

Ah yes, good timing. You see, Master Ashtar, Meme here is one of the biggest offenders in this. Half the time I am not sure whether he's trolling, has read my post but honestly failed to grasp my meaning, or has failed to grasp my meaning because he's being willfully ignorant - for the sake of trolling.

Words have meaning, Mr Dumpster. "Obfuscation" implies, firstly, that the language being used is too dense or flowery for the intended audience to understand, and secondly, that the arguments being raised are intentionally spurious. At no point do the things I post fulfill either of those two criteria. The userbase here on poeTV is generally quite intelligent and well-educated; I am no Derrida or Joyce, and I believe that my posting-style is both simple and straightforward enough for even casual poe-users to understand (assuming that they take the time to read it). What's more, I like to plan out my arguments: I am careful to verify sources, to check the logical flow of my propositions, and to examine the posts to which I am replying closely, in order to sniff out semantic loopholes or new lines of discussion. While I may be *incorrect* at times (who isn't?), I rarely ever make arguments that are outright spurious - the few times I do, it's simply for the sake of trolling, which, I might point out, is best accomplished with CLARITY rather than OBFUSCATION! A good troll means nothing if your intended target cannot understand what is being said.

As I have said many times before, if I post anything which you believe to be incorrect, then I invite you to specify what I got wrong, and why you think I am in error. If you do not understand what I said - if I'm getting a little carried away or ahead of myself - then let me know that, too! Give me sections you need clarified, and I'll do my best to reword them. But saying things like "word salad" or "obfuscation", when what I have posted is clearly neither word salad nor obfuscation, is nothing more than passive-aggressive trolling... and I wish you'd stop.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-03

If anything, I'd argue that I am not obfuscationary *enough*! Which is to say, I am almost pathologically concerned with the precise and logical meaning of language. Here again, you can see this principle at work above - rather than cavalierly accepting the word "obfuscation", I am compelled to break the word down and analyze it, to see whether it IS the word which should be used in this context or not. For this trigger, I blame both the autism, and my upbringing (my father's side of the family are unapologetic adherents of Logical Positivism).

SolRo - 2015-07-03

ROUS, can't you see how dumb you sound when you say that to protect the American working class, you must get rid of the cheapest working class illegals but then import cheap educated labor to make our already overpriced adavanced degrees worth even less.

memedumpster - 2015-07-04

To be fair, SolRo, the Asians so imported score ridiculously higher than college educated Americans in technical fields. American colleges don't educate. It has to be fixed stateside before we can compete, and it really isn't the imported peoples' fault they got a better education. If you banned imported Asians from America and forced Americans to take those jobs, Asia would lap America around the Earth in a decade. It sucks, but we need them. China is top of the planet in education, we're... sad.

Homesers, tl;dr.

memedumpster - 2015-07-04

It's like America treats education the way it does war. For the first time in history a military can slaughter a million people and take a thousand square miles of territory without leaving a single stable village behind or have anything to show for it. We lose constantly to people 1000% less powerful than we are. War is for profit and revenge only, not actual war, which means it doesn't work. Same with education, it's for profit, not learning, and doesn't create anyone who can do anything. Both of these things will have to change, because you don't really have a country under those conditions, just a facade backed by a farce. The great thing about immigrants is that they want to learn based on an idea of learning separated from American ways of looking at things, meaning they genuinely want to know things and do things.

SolRo - 2015-07-05

No meme, they aren't all horribly overqualified.

They're cheaper.

That's the only part that matters to the mega tech companies bringing over literally tens of thousands of them a year.

Often the person who they're firing has to train the imports for several months to do the job or lose severance pay.

13.5 - 2015-07-03

It has been noted that this sounds like Seinfeld dialogue

Well, SOMEONE is doing the raping. And George is NOT happy about it!

TeenerTot - 2015-07-03

Fuck you Trump. Not only for being a bigot, but for muddying the waters in the discussions about rape that we're finally having in his country.

PegLegPete - 2015-07-03

Isn't Trump like a serious frontrunner for the Republicans now? I heard Jeb and some other of the dozen or so GOP candidates are attempting to counter his popularity.

I wish I could believe Trump's popularity is just an elaborate joke the electorate is pulling on the Republican party, but I must say, I think Trump does resonate with Republicans (at the very least). He's got it all: a lack of empathy, narcissism, obsession with wealth and appearing wealthy, and down-to-earth folksy bigotry. He is honest though - at least in terms of what he thinks about the "lesser" races and classes. Jeb'll just dump a few more million into attack ads and voters will be mesmerized by something or another, while forgetting why they were nodding their heads along with Trump a week ago.

SolRo - 2015-07-05

Apperently he has enough support with primary republican voters that he's likely to get a debate spot.

He's the Sarah Palin of 2016

TheOtherCapnS - 2015-07-03

Wasn't there like a months long discussion after 2012 about how Republicans are finally coming to the realization that demographics are changing such that they can't just keep being total shits to everyone who isn't white anymore?

TheOtherCapnS - 2015-07-03

Excuse me, obviously they can. I meant if they want to win a presidential election.

SolRo - 2015-07-05

They realize it, but their base hates 'them coloreds' so they risk losing primaries and big donors until enough of those groups also understand it
