i always thought manhunter was, at the very least, a really weird unique dystopian future

This is obviously a terrible terrible game.. But its so weird, theres so many utterly alien design decisions in it, I find it strangely inspiring.

I never saw it back in the day but I think maybe a schoolfriend of mine might have played it and described it to me.

I loved this game!

badideasinaction - 2015-07-09

I played this at a friend's place back in the day. The alley arcade point was where we finally rage quit - playing it on a slow computer the input lag made it even more unplayable. We might have used the hint book to even get that far, but I think we finally made it past the first guy, saw the second and said "fuck this".

I love Yahtzee and Gabriel's Drown Outs, except for a few where the entire video is them arguing because Yahtzee is being kind of a shithead and looking for a fight because he's obviously in a shit mood.

That aside, I had this game when it was new and thought I was the edgiest kid on the block. Most of these Sierra games actually came with hint guides that gave you gradual nudges to the solution before just giving you the whole answer, so while this game seems utterly baffling in this playthrough, the guides at least gave you a fighting chance. I was always curious to try Manhunter 2, but by the time it came out most of the good software places in my town seemed disinterested in carrying it for some reason.

I still listen to them, though both of them have proven to be not great at the whole 'human being' thing. I particularly liked/hated the one where Gabe found someones wallet and Yahtzee spent ten minutes trying to justify why Gabe giving it back meant that Gabe was stupid.

To be fair, Gabe is as easily distracted as a puppy and likes to get on his high horse moralizing shit, then turn around and casually drop something like how he slept with a hooker. He is more amenable that Yahtzee, but equally insufferable and oblivious to his own shittiness. After all, he IS an Aussie.

Yahtzee is a bit of an Ayn Rand Fan, too. It's not really surprising, but you know, I never like to assume someone is bad before you learn their Rand status.

Why the fuck do I still watch this every Sunday?

StanleyPain - 2015-07-08

As someone who has been following them since before they were even doing videos (and just did an MP3 podcast), Yahtzee by far is the bigger asshole of the pair if for no other reason than, like I said, he tends to take things to a ridiculous extreme then tries to backpedal that he wasn't being serious or whatever. I'm sure that, in real life, the interactions between these guys are probably different and have a lot of subtleties, but even having said that it's pretty clear that Yahtzee is enough of a pretentious shithead that a lot of his "act" is not really as much of an act as he would like people to think. Gabriel's kind of an idiot sometimes, but he's much less of a hostile, projecting idiot.
In any case, I find their playthroughs really entertaining because of that human aspect of them rather then being these pre-scripted, clickbait garbage videos that have become all the rage now.

GravidWithHate - 2015-07-09

I find it fascinating because Gabe is clearly quite a bit more thoughtful and better educated than Yahtzee, so it's interesting to watch Yahtzee's pretentiousness and inferiority complex kick in whenever Gabe is actually trying to think trough a point and the dynamic that creates.

Pre-cisely.

Scrimmjob - 2015-07-08

My best memory of this game was the time the little sliding metal piece on the 3.5" disk came off, and got stuck inside my A: drive! I spent an hour with the stick from a bottle rocket getting it back out

The Mothership - 2015-07-08

Is this the same guy who does zeropunctuation?

The Mothership - 2015-07-08

nevermind, the tags answered my question.

infinite zest - 2015-07-09

Yahtzee seems really cool. I sort of rely on him for games like I did Roger Ebert for movies.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-07-09

Silence of the Lambs was way better and I have no idea why anyone thinks Michael Mann's neon nightmare was superior.
