What exactly did he say? I keep seeing links to his "rant" being passed around and they are not really rants and they're not really racist....so either people are sharing the wrong clip or this is massive overreaction.

SolRo - 2015-07-24

Maybe the "they can say it, so can I" tiny aside he made, but it's still a stretch

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-24

That video in the hopper isn't the one that got him in trouble.

http://tinyurl.com/o22mcmd

“I don’t know if Brooke was f*cking the black guy’s son,” Hulk raved, the sources add.

“I mean, I don’t have double standards. I mean, I am a racist, to a point, f*cking n*ggers. But then when it comes to nice people and sh*t, and whatever.” ...

According to sources, he said: “I mean, I’d rather if she was going to f*ck some n*gger, I’d rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n*gger worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player!

“I guess we’re all a little racist. Fucking n*gger.”

SolRo - 2015-07-24

Well, that's pretty racist

infinite zest - 2015-07-24

Holy shit. I put that one in the hopper and was kind of wondering because white comedians say that all the time and for the most part he was just talking about making excuses for saying "brother", that's no worse than Louis CK defending himself for using any word except for hyphen words. But that's the difference between CK and Richards. Or Jonah Hill but nobody seemed to care about that except for me.. cry on camera and apologize and everyone will still go see your shitty fucking movie Jonah.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-25

That doesn't seem so bad. He's a dad feeling protective of his daughter, he said it in private, and he's right - we're all a little racist. He isn't even that hard on Brooke's African-American friend - he makes exceptions for "nice people" and he concludes that he'd ultimately be OK with Brooke marrying a wealthy ethnic gentleman.

The WWE's response was uncalled for, it beggars belief that otherwise intelligent people react like this, despite knowing (at least in a broad sense) why discrimination is wrong, and I hope the Hulkster files an Equal Opportunity complaint against the WWE, because thought-policing like this needs to be addressed. Even if he doesn't win - and I doubt he would, because American law doesn't make provisions to protect the rights of private-sector employees on political or intellectual grounds - it's the principle that counts.

Fuck Gawker, too. Talk about vindictive courtroom bullshit. Hopefully Hogan's lawyers will get hold of some sex tapes made by Nick Denton, Gawker's CEO, and this whole thing can turn into an orgy of mutual destruction.

infinite zest - 2015-07-25

It is a little extreme. Like I said, Jonah Hill called a paparazzo a "faggot" as he pushed him away. And after that he apologized and everything was fine. He wasn't dropped from any new projects that I know of, and people went out and saw 22 Jump Street like he never said it.

I guess there is a difference; you can call someone a fag and not know their sexual orientation, so that's not really being homophobic in the same way as calling someone a nigger is being racist, because, well it's written in black and white. But the two words mean the same to me because they're both words of hate. But the fact that Hill just got a pat on the back and "some of my best friends are gay" sort of thing and the Hulkster's gone just shows how far we have to come as a society, where none of us are a little bit racist or a little bit homophobic.

kingarthur - 2015-07-26

Your working at the WWE does not protect you from the repercussions of your racist-ass rant once they hear of it.

Plus, I believe they're headquartered in Florida and right to work, and even so, see above.

kingarthur - 2015-07-26

Notice I'm not bringing up Gawker. They did the dirty on Hulk and he should sue them over the sex tape. This, regardless of source, is something the WWE is choosing to react to and, well, this is their reaction.

Plus, the WWE itself may be using this opportunity to absolve itself from some of the HELLA RACIST characters and speech that has been a part of wrestling since the beginning.

oddeye - 2015-07-24

Removing him from the timeline, like when they removed any and every "wwf" spoken or pictured from old tapes, is completely fucking stupid.

SolRo - 2015-07-25

So that's where Stalin went after faking his death.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-07-25

This is happening because Hulk is suing Gawker and they're getting desperate.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-25

Yeah, apparently you're right about this. OZ's link indicates that the source is a transcript of a sex tape, released by Gawker in response to a 0 million lawsuit against them.

Potrod - 2015-07-25

Fuck Gawker.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-25

Gawker really is the worst.

Scrimmjob - 2015-07-25

Good luck to the dorks at WWE if they plan on erasing Hulk fucking Hogan from their history the way they did with Benoit!

Void 71 - 2015-07-25

I doubt they're planning on doing that. They're just doing what the producers of Dog the Bounty Hunter did after son pulled a Gawker on him. He'll be back on TV after the internet hysteria dies down.

badideasinaction - 2015-07-25

Part of me now wonders if they have a purge script designed to insta-erase anyone by name from the site.

oddeye - 2015-07-25

Here at the ww_ it's all kicking off!
____ _____ we're coming for you, ______!!!

infinite zest - 2015-07-25

Yeah, we forget pretty quickly. For example I was watching (don't judge me) Whose Line is it Anyway (seriously there's no cable at work) and the guy who said all that shit from Duck Dynasty was their celebrity guest of the night. Without looking it up I can't even remember what he said or did. And everybody forgets about Bob Saget and what happened in 1990, allegedly, not that they're connected or anything..

But now that I think about it, Afflac was quick to fire Gilbert Godfrey for making insensitive jokes after the Tsunami in Japan. As far as I know he's doing fine but there goes a pretty iconic character, just like that, Afflac doing their best to sever all ties. Maybe 10 years from now nobody will remember Hulk's name.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-26

Is Stockhausen still blacklisted by the classical music world for the out-of-context quote where he ostensibly called 9/11 art back in 2001?

(he didn't actually but nobody cared about what he really meant)
