I'm excited about it.

You kids can keep your Portlandia RFD, and your Jerry Lewis Bang Bang.

Me too, I revisited the X-Files this summer for the first time since I was a kid and had no idea they were rebooting it, which worked out wonderfully. I think it's one of the most consistently entertaining shows, really fun to watch.

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-07-29

X files is a very well written show, with subtle touches that are still ahead of the curve (skinner and the smoking mans dynamic in the early seasons in particular) and 29 episodes alone written by Vince Gilligan (the first being Soft Touch in which a haggard Tony Shalup creates dark matter holes that people fall into and die. However I think anderson and duchovony were made dark by the fame and have now devolved into the shellish caracatatures of their former greatness. And the constant dirge of rehash over original content because it's a sure thing bullshit from fucking Friends to Twin Peaks who, by the way, Kyle mchlachlan has been a cast member of Portlandia since the first season.

With that said, I'm pretty excited for this too

infinite zest - 2015-07-29

I guess I'm at least interested and it'd be cool to see Gillian and David working together again. But I don't think Portlandia really makes the POETV's must-see list, hell, I've been on the show from time to time and I don't watch it.

Yeah X-Files was great revisited. My housemate, who hadn't ever seen it went through all the seasons in probably a week and a half on Netflix. So most of what I remember was with my back turned but I forgot how good it was. That being said I kind of wish this was on Netflix. I love how they just have a whole season instead of week-to-week. I understand why networks don't operate that way, but it makes it easier for a large portion of the population that doesn't work a 9-5 to watch cool shit.

I do like Lillyhammer quite a bit and Bloodline, and Bojack Horseman but I dunno about Wet Hot American Summer, etc.. yeah I'll give this at least a shot.

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-07-29

Netflix is a trough man just build your own digital library on a external hard drive and run it through a hdmi or a media player. It makes me sad to hear cool people talk about Netflix because I feel like its rooting through the bargain bin at Wal mart and all that streaming clicking Internet dependent shit is ultimately maybe not damaging their quality of life but def keepin them from their best use of TV time. Right now I'm cycling through the tick animated series, Harvey birdman, x files, Jonny quest, Seinfeld and the sopranos. Ya gotta go off the grid think outside the monopolies

That guy - 2015-07-29

Let's not throw the phrase "very well written show" around like it's sand at the beach. Some of the episodes are unbearably awful.

TeenerTot - 2015-07-30

I'm mildly excited. The original run (or at least the first few seasons) was pretty good and has nostalgic value for me. (My big brother and I used to watch it together. He died in 97 and I didn't watch after that really. (Until I saw it on Netflix last year.)) (So many brackets.)
But I recently watched The Fall, and will probably be disappointed in Scully now in comparison.

infinite zest - 2015-07-30

LMO that's what I did but my asshole roommate threw my laptop into a dumpster when I was away so my replacement one's a real shitkicker gateway running on ubuntu from years ago. Doesn't even have HDMI because I don't think it was invented yet, and the VGA won't play in color with the house's TV no matter what I try. And I'm still using my ex girlfriend's parents' netflix account, so that's my excuse.

RockBolt - 2015-07-30

A few years ago I decided to watch it over again as while it is one of my most loved TV shows, I had gave up on it through the last 2 seasons when it aired originally. It was like rediscovering love for a while there, but by season 6 I was waning and I barely made it into 7 before I gave up again.

I have a feeling this new stuff is going to be shit :/

Aress - 2015-07-30

Clyde Buckman's Final Repose was so good.

infinite zest - 2015-07-31

Also Wet Hot American Summer series is on there now. Makes me feel bad for not paying. It's a million times better than you'd expect. Like literally one million. But I don't get cable or Netflix at work so this'll super be on.

infinite zest - 2015-07-31

I am inclined to ask about Johnny Quest though: I've only seen a few episodes and I just sort of remember it like I remember Scooby Doo, just a little more plot driven and serious but still a Hanna Barbera show from that era. But when I revisited The Tick (the animated one) I got so many jokes and references that I missed when I was a kid. All of those Tick episodes are up on Youtube; the one I miss the most is The Brak Show. Harvey Birdman was great but Brak Show was always my favorite and it's really hard to find now.

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-07-29

Looks like Mulders been mucking around on that damn haunted Norweigan freighter again

infinite zest - 2015-07-29

The more I think about it the more I can see this working, even though I kinda ranted about it in an earlier post, that not everything needs a reboot. Twin Peaks does not. And if anything Wayward Pines kind of took the idea from what I can tell, so there's not much more you can do with Twin Peaks, as talented as the creators are. But saying no to a new X-Files is like saying no to a new Star Trek, if Star Trek's your thing. So I humbly retract my former statement about how this is lazy and opportunistic and at best it'll make me forget about that horrible movie. It was pretty easy for Scully to do..

bongoprophet - 2015-07-29

that was Duchovny's best take? the one they chose for such a short - even by teaser standards - teaser?

does this teaser have reaction videos yet?

Juice Eggs McKenna - 2015-07-30

"I don't know [if] there's a choice" pretty much sums it up

DriverStabby - 2015-07-30

Let's danse about it!

https://youtu.be/Y6bTbKK63MY

DriverStabby - 2015-07-30

I remember when Duchovny left the show, because he didn't want to be so well known as Mulder, that he could play nothing else, ever (see: Shatner/Kirk).

15 or so years later, he's like, "can I please be Mulder again? *cry, cry, cry*"

StanleyPain - 2015-07-30

Actually he left the show because they wouldn't pay him more money, then when the ratings started to dip they paid him more money.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-31

They also moved the entire show to LA just for him. And then he quit. The last season of X-Files didn't have either Mulder or Scully, just the evil silver Terminator and some random actress.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-07-30

I don't know...

Are they still doing that over-arching alien conspiracy bullshit or will it be awesome "monster of the week" episodes?

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-07-30

TOOOOOOOOOOMS

RedHood - 2015-07-31

You mean the "Sully's in Trouble TV hour"?

RedHood - 2015-07-31

*Scully, whatever.

fluffy - 2015-07-31

A couple months ago I had a panic attack while driving on the freeway, and at the time I was listening to an interview with Duchovny on the radio. Because of the stupid way that the brain works, now David Duchovny's voice is an anxiety trigger for me.

So of course now I have a legitimate reason to watch X-Files as a form of exposure therapy.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-31

The show had the complete opposite effect on me. I hear Dana Scully's voice and I am automatically calmed by it. It has an effect on me almost no other character has ever had. When I was in college pretty much every essay I ever wrote I did by picturing her voice as the narration. For what that's worth.

fluffy - 2015-07-31

It's not the show that causes a problem, it's the fact that I was driving and had a panic attack while I heard Duchovny talking, and so my brain, desperate to link cause and effect, has decided that Duchovny's voice is a sign I need to fear for my life.

Thus, exposure therapy by watching X-Files.

Nominal - 2016-02-29

Update now that it's all over:

Only one of the episodes was any good, written by the Clive Bruckman guy (Morgan).

The rest was all the worst habits of Chris Carter who hasn't learned anything since the 90s.
