I don't know, Gmork, how about you tell me about angels? Claims vary wildly, from "half" to more than "8 in 10", depending on what polls you want to belief - and this, despite the fact that other data suggests belief in God has plummeted over the last decade, and now nearly half of Americans are religiously indifferent and/or outright atheists {1}. In fact, even if Christians are still a sizable minority in this country, I suspect that they're broken down heavily along generational, regional, and ethnic lines. Younger, whiter, more coastal people (and those who aspire to be as such) tend to be blatantly biased against Christianity. We can see that demonstrated here.

Anyways, judging by your own comments, Mr Gmork, you seem to be a fan of these "Satanists". Could you please answer my questions, and tell why they are less silly than the CoS, what is their actual artistic statement here, and how is this Baphomet statue more appropriate than the alternative statues which I proposed above?

I'm not "trolling", I'm asking questions (for my own benefit) and attempting to generate discussion (for the benefit of all).

This so-called "Satanic Temple" that has miraculously turned into the soft-news story of the week, has so far seemed to be banking on nothing more than run-of-the-mill, LeVay style nonsense. They strike me as being attention seekers first and foremost, and quite frankly, all of their spokesmen have come off as a little dumb - more suited to vampire LARPs and Marilyn Manson throwback parties than they are to engaging in serious, thoughtful discourse. Again, not me trolling here, just pointing out observations.

If I'm -wrong-, if they actually ARE super-intelligent geniuses with some important message to get across, then by all means, present me with your best arguments! I'd LOVE to understand what people are seeing in these guy, really I would, because quite frankly, whenever I see them, it's like I'm looking at a pack of fashionably-dressed Nick Bravos.

To me they seem to be goth atheists that are making a point about the separation of church and state and having a lot of fun along the way. They are not being mean spirited in releasing satanist colouring books or statues, unlike the 10 commandments that declare all other religions false. They are not imposing these things in public schools or public property in areas where christian fundies have not done the same.

They have chosen the moniker of satanism because it gets the greatest reaction out of the people they are making a point about, which emphasises the hypocrisy. It creates this reaction without them having to do anything but exist as a religion. It's probably also pretty funny. Also, given freedom of religion, they can worship whoever they please. Satanism is also a "real" religion, unlike "darwinism" or whatever else you are proposing.

I don't see how they are required to be super geniuses to make a point that if christians want the right to impose their superstitions on public school kids and public property, then so should any other religion. They are making the effort to make this point politely, inoffensively (unless you choose to take offence), and with artistic merit.

EvilHomer, where are you seeing anything about nearly half of Americans being non-religious? I certainly didn't see it in the link you provided. I only read through it once, but it looked like that poll was more concerned with how people view the growth of the unaffiliated in America and not the number of unaffiliated itself.

According to this (same source -- Pew), Christians still make up 70.6% of the US population. Unaffiliated make up 22.8%. It's certainly grown quite a bit, but it's nowhere near half of the country. And this was published only a few months ago.

The whole thing started as a counter to the ten commandments being allowed on public property. That is why they chose this particular symbol for their troll.
