Those must be the bullet holes, gun shot sounds and blood spatter from every Nollywood film made in the past 20 years

oddeye - 2015-08-02

SA-TAN PO-LEASE-CE!!

Staring Gentle Jack

HarrietTubmanPI - 2015-08-01

How quaint that people in the 21st century still believe in spirits and demons.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-01

That's Satanists for ya.

Crunchy Frog - 2015-08-01

This particular flavor of Satanists don't actually believe in Satan. They're atheists who use the already existing Satan brand-name to tick of Christians. They're kind of like LaVey Satanists, except they reject the mysticism, and their self-interest is more enlightened.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-01

If they reject the mysticism, then what's with the silly statue? Why even bother with "Satanism" at all? If you're a non-theistic (i.e. boring) Satanist, and you want to cut the mystical bullshit, then the grown-up thing to do is drop the Satan stuff entirely, call yourself an Objectivist, and be done with it.

To paraphrase Mr Miyagi: "Satan do, or Satan don't. Satan maybe, squished like grape." There's a lot that can be said for theistic Satanists (hail Jon Nödtveidt! Vocamus Te Aeshma-Diva!!!) and there's a lot that can be said for self-interested atheists. When you try and mix the two together you lose what makes each side fun, and in the end, wind up with nothing but diluted swill.

Honestly, even Aurini is over his Baphomet and devil-imagery phase. That means these Statue guys are bigger dorks than Aurini. Think about it!

EvilHomer - 2015-08-01

As for the Christians, they may be wrong about the existence of demons, but they are correct in perceiving attacks on their faith and the increasingly anti-Christian nature of the current establishment. There *is* a culture war, the Christians are *not* on the same page as an increasing number of young Americans, and they *will* be brushed aside unless they rally their troops.

StanleyPain - 2015-08-01

You have it in reverse, Frog....it's the actual CoS that are devoid of the mysticism and have more enlightened self interest. This is why they don't engage in dumb, un-Constitutional nonsense like trying to get the state to recognize and support religious monuments.

The Temple of Satan is an off-shoot from the CoS headed up by people who were effectively kicked out of the CoS for being dumb little "edgy" children who wanted the CoS to become the new Anonymous or whatever. The CoS believes in a sense of dignity when it comes to LaVey Satanism and dumb shit like paying lesbians to fuck on the grave of Mitt Romney's family or whatever is not only counter-productive to the recognition of religious (or non-religious minorities), but that all it does it turn more public sentiment against you and undermines any sense of trying to have a moral upper hand in these kinds of situations.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-01

The CoS are pretty silly, too, but it'll be fascinating to watch in the coming years, as the debate over which version of Satanism is sillier leads to an ever-growing schism between the various camps.

In time, they will each come to control their own city-states, and members of opposing anti-theologies will be rounded up and burnt at the stake.

memedumpster - 2015-08-01

Sure, if you consider the GOP and Ayn Rand enlightened self-interest bordering on screaming man-child.

StanleyPain, I am puzzled by your reaction to their trolling over the grave of the mother of Fred Phelps? Is there some other incident I am not aware of.

The New Meat - 2015-08-02

Homer, your brony troll persona is more convincing.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-02

I enjoy the CoS and its offshoots as trolls but it's hard to really respect them much if you dig too deeply. I think the part in Satanis where LaVey sits by approvingly while one of his followers (who was living in the CoS house in SF at the time) talks at length about molesting her son ("teaching him to masturbate" etc.) as an example of how much better the enlightened Satanists are as parents was the real turning point for me as far as viewing them less as respectable trolls and more as often-entertaining creeps.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2015-08-02

Wow look at all the words I started. I am so proud.

baleen - 2015-08-03

The satanists I've met just like doing drugs and fucking and have vague connections to tabletop RPG's and metal.

However there was a dude in Portland who had a satanist compound in an abandoned storage facility and he got demon plastic surgery and they really did believe in demon magic. Saw him walking around and it was funny.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-08-01

Of all the tortures inflicted on blacks by white people, devout Christianity is, in many ways, the most terrible.

Chancho - 2015-08-02

NOT ON MY WATCH FAGGOTS!@

That guy - 2015-08-02

um...... too soon, black people, too soon

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-08-02

The audacity of the christians is amazing. We can have our silly statues and whatnot, but you cant have yours!

Killer Joe - 2015-08-02

It's not discrimination if it's god we're talking about, man. Sure he wrote the constitution and all, but really, that thing only applies to christians.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-08-02

Satanists are the best trolls.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-03

Is it really that they're the best trolls, or is it that they've got the best material to work with?

Either way I'm always happy when they show up in the news and I'm always a little concerned when I see one heading my way in real life, because the vast majority of Satanists I've actually dealt with in person (at least the ones who are obviously, openly Satanists) are kind of like Objectivists with senses of humor and better taste in movies, and they can be kind of tedious to talk to. Not all but most.

infinite zest - 2015-08-02

This really makes me want to move to Detroit.

15th - 2015-08-02

Reconsider.

infinite zest - 2015-08-02

I dunno, it's cheap. It reminds me of my Portland twenty years ago before people started flocking here instead of Seattle or San Francisco. Plus I like the music and don't mind the cold all that much, and I lived in Milwaukee (which when I was there was described as the New Detroit before the whole bankrupcy thing) for long enough to know how to protect my neck.

Yeah.. that was a Wu Tang quote at the end, about the whitest thing you can say..

Lef - 2015-08-02

blasphemy is a sign of belief

15th - 2015-08-02

Yeah, it's certainly cheap and dangerous. There are some great things that combination affords, but don't underestimate how fucked it is in some parts of town. I've never lived there, but I've been nervous there.
