This is the Pilot/1st Episode right? 5 for The Tick. Used to watch this every Saturday, after my mom taped it on VHS because she didn't want to have to wake up early.

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-08-04

i believe this is either late season one or early season two

infinite zest - 2015-08-04

I think the first episode was The Idea Men one, but I could be wrong.

Bort - 2015-08-04

IZ is correct; this is episode three.

There's a lot more speculation here than is really necessary:

I liked the Chair-face episode. I dug that after the letters C H and most of an A were carved into the moon, they stayed there for multiple episodes. Rare continuity for a kids cartoon.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-08-04

And NASA sent Tick up with a bunch of astronauts to erase the graffiti with an explosive charge, but Tick was unfortunately blown into space and only managed to erase the "C".

Tick flew through space or a while until landing on Omnipotus. (an ersatz Galactus) who tricked Tick into leading him back to Earth so he could eat it. Luckily, Tick managed to persuade Omnipotus not to eat the Earth although he did take a nibble off the moon on his way back out into space.

For the rest of the series, the moon had a smiley-shaped bite taken out and the word "HA".

This show was way ahead of its time.

Come to think of it though, I think they were shown out of order. I think the first Saturday morning one was indeed this episode and the Idea Men was shown on Friday night along with a couple other new Fox Kids shows; I think Fox was just like "fuck it let's start it from here kids won't notice" which is fine but ruins the continuity.

wtf japan - 2015-08-04

Tick auto-5

oddeye - 2015-08-04

Another kid's cartoon made to sell shit toys. You would called this advert shit today but because you were 5 and even stupider it was awesome when your shitty eyes saw this shitty cartoon.

Pack your silly toys up, children.

infinite zest - 2015-08-04

I always liked The Tick. It was probably the only show I didn't get when I was.. well I guess I was twelve when it came out. It was funny but the humor passed over my head. It was an adult cartoon stamped with the Scarlet "Fox Kids" letter. Hell, this show taught me who Joseph Stalin was before I learned it in school.

yogarfield - 2015-08-04

I forget, are you the one who never had any toys as a kid, or the one who never had a proper childhood altogether?

Bort - 2015-08-04

Yeah they sold toys.

infinite zest - 2015-08-04

I never had Fox as a kid. We didn't get UHF so I went over to my friend's house or taped shows like the Simpsons and The Tick and such. All my toys were my brother's chewed up Star Wars.

yogarfield - 2015-08-05

Not you, zesty. I was asking Krampus.

wtf japan - 2015-08-05

Look at oddeye getting all worked up about Saturday morning cartoons and telling people to grow up.

infinite zest - 2015-08-05

Ah ok.. but also just to clarify it was my dog that chewed up those star wars toys.. Or was it?

betabox - 2015-08-05

I didn't see it until I was older, and I loved it. Hell, I had no idea they sold toys until I got a Talking Tick for christmas one year.

"Naughty Spawn, you face The Tick!"

infinite zest - 2015-08-05

What's wrong with selling toys? Hell, they sold Clerks toys.

oddeye - 2015-08-07

pipe down kids, after this episode you have to do your homework

Scrimmjob - 2015-08-04

This and the mad bomber episodes are my personal favorites!

Binro the Heretic - 2015-08-04

He's not a mad bomber.

HE'S THE MAD MIDNIGHT BOMBER WHAT BOMBS AT MIDNIGHT!

infinite zest - 2015-08-05

I like how when I was a kid a man with a chair for a head that could talk totally made sense.

Spit Spingola - 2015-08-05

Oh hey, Dot is voiced by blonde the receptionist lady from Twin Peaks.

betabox - 2015-08-05

Yeah, it was always fun recognizing voices on The Tick. In addition to Mickey Dolenz, there were episodes with Firesign Theater alumni, and others.
