Suck on THAT, Craig Kilborn!

infinite zest - 2015-08-09

Yeah really.. when Colbert said "you made this show" I kind of wished he'd have retracted that.. I mean, he "made" it the way Carson "made" the Tonight Show but neither of them created it.. anyway I don't think Craiggers got the shaft that bad. Where was Brian Unger? Demitri Martin? Beth Littleford? I guess that was more when I was watching the show and nobody probably remembers them.. :(

Also I used to live with a gal who was in the office segment. Keep following your dreams babe :)

fluffy - 2015-08-09

I never knew Demetri Martin was on TDS. I only watched it a little bit in the Kilborn era mostly because I didn't like the way that they loved to punch down on quirky people as their "interest" piece.

Fox News wins... flawless victory... babality!

*votes Trump, bombs Iran*

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-08-09

Donald Trump is immeasurably scarier to Fox News than Jon Stewart ever was.

memedumpster - 2015-08-09

Once he gets the nomination, they will back him 9000% and cite this period as that time "we reported fairly and with the balanceness which is why he is most vetted now vote for it or the terrorists wins" period. Every registered Republican not a rich person, so 99% of them, back him, because rich people have money and they want money.

This is the only human being alive that can prevent a Democrat from becoming president, because he represents the absolute pure concentrated evil that makes America powerful, money and stupidity, all this country has ever or will ever have going for it. This will be known as the volunteering for eternal future slavery epoch of America, for the two years it lasts before nuclear holocaust.*

*nuclear holocaust an optimistic myth, not available in all parallel universes.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-08-09

No, Fox recognizes Trump is unelectable because of....well, everything. They know he's toxic to a GOP that's trying to rebrand itself in a way more favorable to women, the young, and minorities, and the only people he's bringing in are a small number of angry, dumb rednecks that, hilariously enough, can significantly influence the course of the primaries.

They'd much rather have Bush or Walker or, hell, even Kaisch than Trump and the idea that anyone in the party is supporting a man who FORMALLY ANNOUNCED HE'S NOT LOYAL TO THE PARTY is absurd on multiple levels. Fox knows this. Everyone knows this. The question isn't if Trump can secure the nomination, but how much damage he'll do before he'll flame out. For big-ticket donors, the goal is to remove him from the race immediately.

Every election cycle, people flip out because some novelty candidate experiences a brief surge in the polls eight months before the Iowa caucus and starts wringing their hands about The End of Democracy. And every single time, basic electoral math crushes them as the party inevitably rallies around a moderate figure that can plausibly attempt to pivot to the center.

Donald Trump is not going to be President. Ever. Neither is Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, or Bernie Sanders. To think otherwise is demonstrably ignorant.

memedumpster - 2015-08-09

I have bookmarked this page in case I ever need to refer back to your confident commentary in light of Trump's presidency. I probably wont link to it, though, because I will be too busy eating a bullet.

fluffy - 2015-08-09

On the plus side, if Trump nukes China, that'll do a pretty good job of slowing down global warming. (Both due to stopping them from using so much coal and due to the resulting nuclear winter.)

poorwill - 2015-08-09

"he's toxic to a GOP that's trying to rebrand itself in a way more favorable to women, the young, and minorities" What GOP is this? Since the tea party incursion, they went fucking insane.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-08-10

poorwill: The post-2012 GOP, which is fully aware of what a disaster that election was. The establishment knows it's created a monster, but can't afford to kill that monster, so it's hoping for either A) A magic candidate will appear that's appealing to the establishment wing, the anti-establishment wing, and moderates (Scott Walker; on a related note, hahahahaha nope), or B) an establishment candidate that appeals to a broader swathe of undecideds, wins the general, and gradually tempers down the Tea Party through occassional concessions (Jeb).

memedumpster: Print it out twice, put it in 72-point Railroad Gothic, and put it in small caps like LORD in the Bible because Trump will not become President, will not become the nominee, and most likely will not win a single primary. If Trump is still relevant in six months, I will be shocked and delighted. But he will never come anywhere close to the Presidency. He is the single greatest gift liberals could ask for, and we must treasure that.

I caught the tail end of it, it was a shame that Kilborn got less appreciation than some of the unfunny correspondents.

I dunno, the whole thing felt a little biased.

infinite zest - 2015-08-09

For whatever reason I can't watch it, but I think I got the gist of it. Lots of celebrities and correspondents and such, just like the Dr. Strangelove ending of Colbert Report. I liked Stewart but Craiggers was always the superior host to me, because while he was more than just a sportscenter host, he was a Luddite speaking to Luddites. It was funny and irrelevant while being completely relevant at the same time. Stewart, at least what I saw, never captured that same feeling. But I'll miss him.

Is he going into politics now? I'd love to see him go the direction of Al Franken.

infinite zest - 2015-08-09

Oh, duh. It doesn't want to embed, for me anyway, but you can click "original." That was magical.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-08-09

I liked Craig Kilborn, too. I especially loved the fact that the original Daily Show was filmed without an audience, and sometimes you could hear the cameraman laugh. It had a comfortable, local TV feel.

But, seriously, I don't know how I could have survived the GW Bush years, the Iraq War, the rise of Fox News, 9/11, and THE DEATH OF IRONY if not for Jon Stewart. The Daily Show became something important, at least to me, and I don't care if admitting it makes me some kind of hipster or nurd or whatever. It was like oxygen to me, at a time when NPR became just too depressing.

The first half of the show, with the reunion of former correspondents was okay, but the second half was wonderful, with a dazzling parody-homage to the famous tracking shot from GOODFELLAS, and some parting words from Jon about "Bullshit", which I saw on Hulu, and it was beautifully unbeeped. Those two segemnts are, in my judgement, can't-miss. It was a fine farewell. And if Trump gets the nomination, i predict that Jon Stewart is going to pull a Jay Leno.

fluffy - 2015-08-09

The whole time through I was just wondering "So with all these correspondents coming back are they going to have Wyatt Cenak?" And then they had Wyatt Cenak, and it was awkward but charming.

I don't know if it was a real heartfelt apology/reconciliation but it's good marketing for both of them, at least.

infinite zest - 2015-08-09

Oh! I had no idea who that person was; interesting story. I haven't seen the segment (if you have a link that'd be rad) but I could see offense being taken. Like, as much as we can all agree that Cosby's, well, Cosby, I'd be offended if a white comedian did an impression of him in an attempt to "sound black."
