This Exists is, generally, a pretty great show, so I'm glad it showed up here. Some of the stuff is fairly common knowledge for people on the net but but he's done some good homework.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-08-28

In the Realm of Senses is available on Hulu Plus, but the way, as part of the criterion collection.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-28

I haven't seen In The Realm of the Senses since i was maybe 16, but I remember it was a pretty good, character driven film. If you're watching it for shock value you'll be disappointed though, it's no Sweet Movie.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-08-28

If by "shock value", you mean "aid to masturbation", I agree.

grimetooth - 2015-08-28

I was just re-watching Horrors of Malformed Men. Funny.

Sudan no1 - 2015-08-29

guro is "the bomb" I like guro

Maggot Brain - 2015-08-29

Doesn't really get into the motives for the popularity of the work.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-29

For a clip purporting to be about ero-guro, this is surprisingly tame; maybe a little pretentious, even! Did Mr Nerdglasses-Coolguy find the most artsy-fartsy examples of guro he could, because he was worried about how most such content might play to his audience? Did he do this because he only just recently learned about guro, and got most of his info from Wikipedia (I notice he references 'The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife', a painting which has the dubious distinction of being Wikipedia's only piece of tentacle porn)? Ero-guro is a broad art movement and it's nice to see this guy treating it with some dignity and respect, but would it kill him to show a shitting dick nipple, or a page from Death Panda?

John, you've watched this guy's channel before, you know more about him than I do. What's the deal here?

baleen - 2015-08-29

I don't need this shitheel stealing my shit and making money off of our thing. Fuck you, mainstream stealer guy.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-08-30

OK, OK! I get it! You guys already knew about this. As you might expect from the title, "This Exists" is intended as a general introduction, aimed at more of a non-hipster audience. I found it to be very informative. Like Wikipedia.

What part of "THIS EXISTS" don't you understand? I don't know the answer to any of these questions.

>>I don't need this shitheel stealing my shit and making money off of our thing. Fuck you, mainstream stealer guy.

If this was really your shit, you'd be happy to have youtube popularize it, but apparently, you want to keep it out of the mainstream, to preserve a sense of exclusivity. This is why hipsters suck.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-08-30

Also: Wikipedia clearly needs more tentacle porn!

EvilHomer - 2015-08-30

>> What part of "THIS EXISTS" don't you understand?

Umm, the whole part?

Again, I've never watched this channel, in fact, I've never even heard of it before. I don't know what his angle is, besides "I'm a hipster who stands in front of a greenscreen talking to normies about stuff nerds already know". Is that it? Is there more to him than poorly-sourced, G-rated nerdsploitation? Help me out here, Mr Holmes, I need to be able to place this submission into context before I can rate it accurately.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-30

>> If this was really your shit, you'd be happy to have youtube popularize it

Well, "popularize it" maybe, but he's not really popularizing *IT*, he's popularizing a frankly rather culturally irrelevant subsection of *IT*. What Mr ThisExists does here is akin to, say: a scifi nerd trying to sell the general public on science fiction - yet the whole time he never mentions Star Trek, Star Wars, or BSG. Instead, all he talks about is Barsoom and Georges Méliès.

That's what Mr ThisExists is doing. He's misrepresenting the genre because he's too hung up on century-old space operas.

>> but apparently, you want to keep it out of the mainstream, to preserve a sense of exclusivity.

I think in ero-guro's case, it would be more a sense of not-getting-run-out-of-town-by-rednecks. American society is generally a more socially tolerant place than it was fifty years ago, and judging by the level of acceptance I've seen for it online, I'd guess that the ero-guro fandom, like most other bizarre internet fetish communities, is roughly around where the mainstream homosexual community was in the late 80s/ early 90s. Grudgingly put up with by most, yet there's still a lot of danger there, and I can understand baleen's reluctance to come out the (meat-locker?) on a national stage.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-08-30

One of these days, there's going to be a "THIS EXISTS" video about Evil Homer. For now, here's some stars.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-30

Why are you five starring your own submission?

You should be apologizing to baleen, not five starring your own submission.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-08-30

This is the kind of person who aspires to work for Cracked.com.

EvilHomer - 2015-08-30

Oh, see that? You even got Caminante mad. You're a mean one, Mr Holmes.

casualcollapse - 2021-08-12

that hit diff in 2021

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-08-13

I have absolutely no memory of this.

Lef - 2015-08-31
