I like how about 3 of those kids aren't really dancing, they're just imitating someone off camera.

Also, I don't think we'll ever see a commercial this weird again.

I guess the guy from Devo did a bunch of original music for Pee Wee. It all makes sense now.

infinite zest - 2015-09-06

Yeah Pee Wee had roots in the Los Angeles punk scene too, which is why the sets and art were so weird, because they were designed by Gary Panter, more known for his work in the punk magazine Slash, the Jimbo comics, and as the vicarious inspiration for The Simpsons' character designs, among other things. I also think that Reubens used to date Exene Cervenka but maybe they were just friends. Probably for the best that he didn't go down that road since she's a crazy truther bitch now, and Pee Wee's back on top!

No kidding? I should revisit some episodes, I haven't seen it since I was a kid. I do remember weird vibes.

Keep Pee Wee Weird :)

Scrimmjob - 2015-09-07

The music on PeeWee's Playhouse was done either by Devo, The Residents, or Todd Rundgren, depending on the episode. Maybe that changed at some point, I had a box set of the first 2 seasons of Playhouse, and all of those episodes were done by one of those three groups.

If I had to guess the music from this commercial sounds like The Residents, or possibly Todd, but probably not Devo.

infinite zest - 2015-09-09

Yeah I had the that boxset too. I think Mark Motherbaugh did the theme song, and the stuff like Dinosaur Family (and things like this) was The Residents. The Mothersbaugh thing makes sense, since he was also doing cartoon music like Rugrats and silly Devo side projects for movies around the same time, but I remember seeing Todd Rundgren and The Residents pop up and it was weird for the adult me, that I had been watching and hearing this stuff a good 10-15 years before I'd actually know who or what they were. Can't think of too many "childrens'/educational" shows these days that accomplish this, they just try a little too hard like Sesame St, leaving kids scratching their heads while their parents are "getting it."

And yes, I do believe Pee Wee was more an educational program than an entertainment one; I learned a lot more from that show than I ever did from Sesame Street or any other show when I was a lad.

Old_Zircon - 2015-09-06

This music is not at all dissimilar to what I've been doing lately.

M-DEEM - 2015-09-07

Well keep it up because this music is rad. I'd buy a tape.

That guy - 2015-09-07

Stop holding out!

chumbucket - 2015-09-08

When you say "doing" is that music you are working on or does the theme here remind you of your day to day life struggles, in general?

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-09-06

The music is such a confusing choice.

baleen - 2015-09-07

It's exxxxtreme!

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2015-09-06

Holy ass balls I had no idea he had a line of clothing at JCP.

Cube - 2015-09-07

The music sounds like an 80s Estonian Harry Egipt ad.

simon666 - 2015-09-07

Wow.
