To be fair, it was likely filmed before Charleston, and the church was more representative of the shooter, but yes, you have a point.

That said, church or not, it was one of the best action scenes in the past decade. That isn't to the movie's credit, it's the the past decade's detriment.

Now, everything other than that church massacre actually kinda sucked. Including this scene. the movie as a whole was not great, which is a shame, because going back to the cheesy spy fiction has potential, but the self-awareness can't be there if it's ever to work. It need to be delusional people the genuinely beleive that cheesy spy fiction is the best spy fiction or it's always turn into self aware crap.

Sadly, the lack of self-awareness is hard to come by these days. The best bad movies or any genre will always be made by people that are really trying hard to be good and just plain failing instead of failing on purpose like this movie was.

Umm.. I'm pretty sure this movie came out half a year before Charleston. I kinda wanted to see it because I liked the comics, but Millar hasn't had the best luck with his works turned into films (see also Wanted, Kick-Ass) so I skipped it. I might check it out if it's free and I'm bored, but sometimes things that work great in a comic book don't work on film, said every director who ever tried to do it ever.

There is a kinda Ken Russell vibe I get from this scene though, or How I Stopped Worrying, Rip Off Kubrick and Enjoy A Fucking Movie.

I enjoyed a single scene in an otherwise bad movie, so I MUST be a twat.

The scene I enjoyed was not this scene, but rather the aforementioned church massacre, which was a very well choreographed and shot single-take scene (even if faked with digital trickery). I'm a sucker for the long take. The rest of the movie is a bad movie. You are a bad delivery service, fedex. I'm going UPS for life forever, amen.

I really disliked the smarmy britishness of this, i just was saying how it was nuts that john wick and this movie came out and both have church massacres... did you guys think i thought these movies caused those? i was just saying the timing left a bad taste in my mouth, nothing else

It could've very well had an impact on the DVD release; I remember the church scene being leaked from a DVDRip on Reddit maybe a month before Charleston (and the DVD's actual release). It was kind of a selling point to an otherwise unseen summer movie that was inexplicably released during Oscar season in the winter.

Usually PR people are pretty good about this. For example, the excellent Gangster Squad was pulled from its release date, a week after the Batman theatre shootings. I promise it's not a spoiler (no more than this or the church scene would ruin this movie for me) but yeah, gunfight in a movie theatre. But the difference is Kingsman's scene was totally comic booky and over the top; it'd be like shelfing Snakes on a Plane because of some airline disaster. Gangster Squad didn't need to do it either (it's also comic booky) but I respected their good judgement, since it's fairly historically accurate.

Like I said I really liked Millar and Gibbons' comics, and as far as directors go, Vaughn did a pretty good job with Millar's Kick-Ass, so it's a good sign that he directed this adaptation too. Wanted was a huge disappointment but at least I got to hear Morgan Freeman say "motherfucker," that's worth the price of admission, right?

One thing that I loved about Watchmen (the movie) is that it was Snyder's attempt at telling Moore that he got a raw deal in the past, but I know plenty of diehard Watchmen fans who simply refuse to see the movie simply because Moore won't. I don't want to be like one of those people.. I'll probably figure out a way to watch it tonight and I'll give my honest opinion if this is still on the front page, because y'all have good taste and I get most (if not all) of my movie recommendations from here :)
