Around these parts, thanks to a few of us and Rooster Teeth, we call these types of indie film producers "shiznos." Everyone in Northern Kentucky and Southern Indiana pretty much uses that term now. Shiznos are legion around here. Entire support groups have popped up over local shiznos not paying their PAs and others.

Anyway, this video does the Lord's work.

Indiana has a film industry?

Gmork - 2015-10-15

I remember when Rooster Teeth consisted of people I played Myth with on a regular basis instead of wannabe machinima types. Is Grasshopper even involved anymore?

memedumpster - 2015-10-16

Indiana is surprisingly easy to shoot in. Hell, New Albany let us shut down their streets and film gunfights in them. Just don't live there unless you like living in hell itself.

I know no one at Rooster Teeth, I just know the word "shizno" because of Red vs. Blue.

People I know who've worked in film have told me they wished they had a dollar for every time some delusional, ah, underfinanced entrepreneurs (to borrow a term) posted on Craigslist saying that he/she wrote a script and were looking for a "filmmakers" or "camera men" (proof they've never even worked on a film in their lives) with their own cameras and lighting equipment and sound equipment who will work and rent for nothing but it's okay because the geniuses fully intends to screen their films at Sundance and Cannes and the whole crew are all gonna be famous for this zero budget movie about zombies/low rent criminals trying to pull off a heist/the hardships of being an exotic dancer/etc.

***** Awesome post
also:

-"sound guy" x1000
-"we're looking for a director who is an expert with green screens" or "who has experience working with a live bear" or "lighting and shooting bottles" or "car stunts" or other random-ass requirements that are not part of a director's job
-"must have 3 feature credits and your own gear, no pay"
-"need a union 2AD, no pay"
-"we're looking for a PA with experience in budgeting, scheduling, casting, lighting and camera...... no pay"
-"I'm a director and I need an assistant who is great with casting actors and rewriting a script since I haven't directed before"

It's also sad that the poor, garage-band level filmmakers who post straightforward ads looking for teammates are guilty by association with all the jack-asses on c/l who think they can ask the moon for no pay and who don't know what they're doing.

The best kinds of filmmakers are those who budget thusly...

Expensive Mountain Hotel Location : 00.
Equipment and vehicle rental : 00.
Marketing and promotion : 00.
Traveling to events to not sell your product, but say you have one and just hang out : 00.
Paying actual humans to do these things : ##CONTENT##.

This happens constantly.

Rosebeekee - 2015-10-15

I once had to send a few hundred photos of actors in potential costumes to a half dozen producers for approval. I compressed them all into a zip file and emailed it to them. All but one of them couldn't figure out how to open a zip file, so I had to spend an entire night uploading hi-res photos to imgur from a 10 year old desktop and sending them the links.

***** JESUS H
The difference between "producers" and producers is staggering.

I'm assuming those people were somewhere in between the two extremes, but, yeah.....

it's hard enough to get a "paid" job in the *actual* entertainment industry. god bless these schlocky dipshits for being the finest mesh in the gatekeeping process.

this reminds me of "A-level people hire A's; B-level people hire C's". Craigs film is straight Q-level.
